Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check

I am personally done debating with you "Digits" on this subject, on this forum - I believe we have managed to get a pretty good idea of why the decisions were made and i don't believe it as much of a momentous issue as you are making it into. If you are still not satisfied - please PM me your actual...

Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check

I really think this conversation has run its course and is not being productive anymore but i do need to respond to this previous post because it is 150 % false!! Photofly wrote" "Please also note that the insurer doesn't care how difficult it is to get pilots to volunteer; in fact the insurer would...

Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check

So let me get this straight - a certain number of you have been complaining that COPA has implemented this policy of a back ground check for the pilots - now after 95 posts I believe its been explained very well why this was done and it was not done by COPA's choice and not taken lightly - and now t...

COPA President Bernard Gervais summed it up in the following article:

Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check

Just a quick note - unfortunately this not a "COPA" driven issue - this is an industry/society issue. As a bunch of people have stated here, this is pretty standard practice for anybody dealing with kids. I'm sure COPA is not happy that they have to impose this extra burden on our CFK volunteers but...

Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check

I am actually one of the current Board Members of COPA that some of you here speak favorably of and some not so much. I was not part of the discussion/decision to have these background checks so I can't comment to what the rational was in implementing this new policy. The main reason why I would lik...

Re: Lake St. John accident

It was a Lake Amphib - the two occupants got out with serious but non life threatening injuries. One of the occupants is a regular contributor on these forums - PilotDAR He is pretty beat up but going to survive - he's been transferred to Toronto for surgery. I will update when I know more - I am in...

Re: Building a New Grass Strip

Just to clarify about insurance - you need to have "Runway liabilty" - I'm pretty sure this is not included in your COPA membership since they are in the business of selling insurance. Some aircraft policy will have a "runway liabilty" endorsement - I believe Flying Farmers insurance has this. I hav...

Having quite a few amphib hours, being in the salvage business for more than a week and running a maintenance shop that works on quite a few amphibs - AND also landing quite a few floatplanes on snow, ice, grass - AND - also being in the right seat of an amphib that landed on pavement with the wheel...

Peter Muehlegg's sudden passing

We are very sad to let you all know about the sudden passing of Peter Muehlegg - my long time next door neighbor and friend - and parts supplier to lots of the Skywagon owners out there. He was away on an ice fishing trip in Temagami, Ontario and passed suddenly this past Saturday. All our hearts go...

Re: Getting involved to preserve our future...

There are many challenges to us as pilots, aircraft owners/operators, runway owners/operators - from government and non government. There are people in this country - like PilotDAR and I - that have been both directly and indirectly involved in fighting these battles for many years. We have a wide r...

Re: Flights of fancy at Markham airport

I worked there for a few years in the late 80's - but because of the fact that I don't need anymore "cease and desist" letters like the one from COPA - I am not going to say that I agree with everything that has been said here! I am also not going to say that I read the article in the paper on Satur...

Re: Fuel Feed failure for a single engine Cessna

Alright, I went and dug it out CAR Standard 523.975 (4) Airspaces of tanks with inter-connected outlets must be inter-connected; I just found it too. Ill placard the Cub fuel system one tank on at a time. I just never really thought of return lines pushing back about the same amount of fuel ...

Re: Bad dreams

I've always had dreams about hitting the ground at high speed - I found how realistic they really were last summer when the engine quit on a 185 on amphibs at 400 feet on climbout - the really interesting and scary part was the fact that you don't approach the ground - it comes up at you in that sit...

As far as I know all single engine Cessna that have a "both" setting have a vent tube connecting the tanks along the front carry through - including the 185??

Standing in the back yard on my dock in my 2000 ft long pond, receiving an APBQ hat from Tom Watson of Aitken Insurance for being the first customer outside of Quebec for the new APBQ Insurance program - so far it's been a huge success - most people in Quebec and a lot of people in Ontario have sign...

Re: doug ronan removed as director from copa

We had a big party/barbecue here this past Saturday with over 150 people. “Fiery” Phil Englishman (newly re-elected COPA Director for this area) sent me an email asking if he could stop by and bring some proxies to get signed for the AGM. I replied “absolutely - bring as many as you like – if nothin...

Re: Is this for real ?

It probably is real - I have flown lumber, EDO 2000 floats (one at a time), aluminum boats on 180/185's. We also flew a Super Cub fuselage and wings (separately) on the side of a Beaver. I had a debate on the dock with the pilot/owner of the Beaver about taking the fabric off the Super Cub fuselage ...

Re: An extra ten knots for mum and the kids

All the practising, mathematical equating and speculation on what "might" happen doesn't take the place of real world experience when it come to forced landings - I have that from 3 LOW LEVEL engine failures and with two ending up as forced landings in nearly 30 yrs/6000 hrs of "private" flying. Fir...
