Re: Least-expensive IFR GPS options in Canada

Aspens are great, when they work. I did my multi-engine rating in a Seneca that had problems with both the ASI and Altimeter tape. Which didn't really matter all that much as there were still the original ASI and Altimeter installed. But it did prove annoying on the first flight or two.... The comp...

Re: Circuit Breaker Fasteners

If it's just a regular 7274 series, I'm pretty sure it's just a 15/32-32 Panel nut ( http://www.sensata.com/download/en7274d11revad.pdf) and an MS35333 lockwasher. You'd probably find what you're looking for a place like Fastenal (Burnaby and Abbotsford) (https://www.fastenal.com/web/products/detail...

Re: Air Canada Accident in YHZ

When I was still at AC in 2011, we had just started installing provisions for a Multi Mode Reciever (Including GPS) on the 320's. The mods were only partial installs, I guess in the last four years they never finished them.

Re: Germanwings A320 Plane Crashes in Southern France

If I remember correctly there are two pressure sensors on the overhead panel that automatically unlock the cockpit door if there's a rapid decompression. We used to test this function during HMV checks. If all else failed, I suppose one could pop a cabin door in last attempt to gain entry to the coc...

Re: MH 370 Battery expired

While it's sloppy that they'd miss something like that, it's starting to get tiresome seeing all these reports referring to it as a "Dead" battery. When we replace time-expired DK-120 ULB's, the batteries are ALWAYS still fully charged. When you see something like: "The old battery means that crews ...

Re: What is a typical time to gain an AME license?

It all depends where you work and what you're doing. After you graduate, you have to complete the 2 1/2 years of experience anyways... so that's a starting point. I had no problem filling mine out in less time than that and had it submitted well before the time was up. Went in at the end, wrote CARS...

So has anything changed at Encore in the last six months, or are they still offering crap? I see they've still been looking for people recently.

It's quite nice to see on the hiring section of their website that that actually lay out what they pay. Looks like a decent place to work.

Re: Train in the US and fly in Canada?

This is a topic I also find of particular interest. I've been in aviation for a number of years (As an AME) and have recently toyed with the idea of going for my PPL. I have a good grasp of the costs associated and have began hunting around for prices. I live within 10 minutes of Peace Arch, and tra...

Seeing this is posted in the wrong forum, I guess I'll comment on it right here. Anyone know what this place is like nowadays?

Joining military as a licensed AME

Just throwing this out there to see if anyone has any input. I'm a licensed AME 'E' with mulitple endorsements, and in my search for work I've began exploring all avenues, one of which is the military. Seems to be as close to 'stable' employment as you can get in this industry, the pay seems reasona...

Re: Please Help me to Choose Between MASTERS and AVIONICS.

I am an AME 'E' (Avionics) and here's my input. Seeing as you already have a four year degree, you are clearly a bright induvidual. Don't waste two years of your life going to school for this trade, only to come out and have a difficult time finding a place who are taking apprentices and paying $17 ...

Re: Multiple endorsement premium

The premium at AC is $30 a month per active endorsement (First endorsement does not count). Not sure if it was raised in the new CBA and by how much, but I'd imagine it's still a joke.

I don't really know where to start with this one..... You must be pretty new to this industry, that's apparent. When you say your entire class graduated, that sounds like such a great thing... but when you start looking into it, what are the quality of those jobs? I'm not trying to sound like a crus...

Re: Licensed AME jobs in canada after AVEOS callapse

It's not fair that we are all cast as 'Bad Apples' (Ex-A/C) however it's a fact that I'm starting to become accustomed to. It's true that there were an inordinate amount of completely useless people working there, whether it being that they were poor at their job, lazy, or a combination of both, how...
