Re: Up Coming Interview
KenoraPilot, the SIM Eval is pretty straight forward, almost a standard IFR ride. They hand you a sheet with specific company SOP's and aircraft speeds and power settings. They give you 45 minutes to review them and then you hop into the sim. You get to pick the seat you're most comfortable in. They...

Re: North-Wright
Is the bond still 4 years? Paying in $250 a month that you forfeit if you leave before 4 years is up? As far as I know they still deduct $250 p/month for 36 months and then you get it all back when you complete your contract which is 36 months after initial PPC/PCC, and you don't get it back with i...

Re: ATPL Processing Times
I used the YWG office, it took them 3 months to process it (including X-Mas/New Year holidays). Submitted my application and a copy of my electronic logbook in early Nov. 2013, got my ATPL first week of Feb. 2014. Pretty straight forward. When I submitted it they warned me that they had a 3 month ba...

If you are certain you will have everything completed by May, then apply. Lots of guys are already applying. Companies are already starting to think about spring/summer.
Good luck!

Re: low time guy with a bit extra
Not the greatest decision! If I'm not mistaken the Twin Otter training course at Flight Safety doesn't give you a PPC, since PPC's are company specific. I believe you don't get anything on your license after the course. I have a few friends that did the course back in the day and got on with WA, how...

Last I heard was that they currently have 2 captains and are looking for a new F/O because the previous one just left to fly some big iron, after working there a couple of years.

Single engine Navajo into Deer Lake, ON
Heard on 126.7 a Navajo going into Deer Lake, ON single engine today (Jan. 15, 2013). Heard they had to shut an engine down in flight. Wanted to see if anyone knew what the outcome was. Hope all went well and a successful landing was accomplished. Fly safe all.

Re: Yukon territory advice?
The Yukon is not a solid place to find your first flying job unless your willing to put time in on the ramps in Whitehorse for a few years and have 500+hours. Be prepared to spend a few seasons on the ramp and then a few working seasonally. Just a fact the mining industry in the yukon and the littl...

I worked as a fishing guide for a lodge in Rivers Inlet (no longer in business). I highly recommend this area, fantastic fishing. I would recommend Duncanby Lodge, they've got great equipment and accommodation. Enjoy!

Re: Interim or volunteering for high school student
You should check with your local CASARA (Civil Air Search and Rescue Association). They are always looking for volunteers. I used to do flights for them (Both training exercises and actual searches) and you get to meet some good people from different fields and backgrounds. This is their national we...

It's not the perfect comparison with the electrician but way better than the one with the doctor. Maybe we can compare the responsability, profesionnalism, ethic, hands skill and judgement as it was the same level of a pilot, or near to it. I'm just throwing this in the discussion while we are at th...

IMHO, if you can, get your PIC time, specially if it's Multi-PIC. Once you have 500+ MPIC it's easier for you to move on to a bigger and better machine. But I guess it all depends on how happy you are at your current employer.
PIC time = GOLD

Re: getting a flying job these days !
This whole thing of having to work the ramp before you can fly an airplane is garbage. You don't see doctors cleaning toilets at the hospital for 1-2 years before getting to treat a patient. You don't see lawyers sitting at a desk taking lunch orders, answering phones and moping the office floor bef...

Re: TCCA CPL to FAA CPL Conversion
You had a fast one pulled on you. As long as your instrument ticket is valid, they must honor it as you convert. You should have only written one test. Search faa.gov there is a link wich has the procedure. Also you don't need a radio permit, only if you plan on flying to ICAO countries ( like Cana...
