Courtenay airpark crash
Went for my walk around the airpark today and I was told there was a crash. Found this... http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/small-plane-crashes-in-courtenay-sending-man-to-hospital-1.3068040 Hope the pilot is okay. I heard his legs were pinned underneath the wreck and they had to pry hi...

Zenith-zenair ch601 ch-650
Hi guys, I have read a ton about the inflight breakups of the zenair 600 series aircraft. I also read the FAA bulletin released in November 2009. Sine then, have any Other failures of the aircraft failed due to inflight breakup? Have the new kits being sold now been improved so they don't encounter ...

Hi guys,
Anyone know of a place on or near Vancouver Island that does aerobatics flight training?
I have heard there might be a place in Squamish?

Experimental aircraft hour logging
Hi guys, Does anyone know where in the CAR's I can find the rules for logging hours in experimental aircraft to use towards higher license ratings? For example: A person could have SEL rating on their private pilot licence (or any licence) and their friend has an experimental aircraft on floats that...

Airasia: ice brings down plane
I simply don't agree with this as being the sole problem. Why wouldn't they have communicated with ATC? There was no sign of distress. There is more to this.

Re: Price of oil and aviation
Oil will be back up by mid-summer...plus US congress will push through pipeline projects in new year. +1 Oil will be back up to 80$-90$ a barrel in 3-4 months or so...so I don't think it will have any affect on crew moves...and as Johnny#5 said, Keystone will get approved in Jan when the Republican...

Re: Avgas prices
Photo fly: I heard (hearsay, not backed up by fact) that avgas comes from only one company in Canada. If it does only come from one company that could explain why avgas prices could remain higher, due to lack of competition. If there is no one else that will undercut the suppliers price then why wou...

Re: Quarterly flight crew license statistics? Help needed..
I was trying to find the same information during the summer months, I couldn't find anything up to date. The best I could find was the latest study which was conducted in 2008 or 2009? I can't remember the date but the information was too old to be relevant for current study but it painted a good ov...

Avgas prices
Since we will be experiencing a period of much lower oil prices when will we see a significant drop in Avgas prices, if any?
I'd like to hear what people speculate about this topic.

Re: Question.... Pilottrainning.ca
Pilottraining.ca is great! If you don't mind studying on your own. I decided to use pilottraining.ca for both the PPL and CPL. I find there is a ton of information included with the PPL Course that you don't get through a local FTU. You can review actual training flights which can help drill certain...

Re: Risks of night flying
Can you post a link to the other thread. I'm curious for educational reasons.
I'm a low time pilot with a night rating and I am always trying to learn through others experiences.
Thanks

Thanks for the link.
I guess TC randomly sends out these 55 dollar fees because this is the first time I have ever received he bill. Perhaps it's only for commercial pilots?

Aviation medical fees
Quick question: I have just finished my third medical ever for licensing purposes. All I ever remember doing in the past was going to a aviation medical doctor, giving him a cash payment, he examines me, and then that's it. He stamps my book and I am done. However this time I have received a 55 doll...

Thanks for your input guys, much appreciated. I would have liked to have heard different, but I guess I cant have my cake and eat it too. If I am posted up there I will be there for a few years. Going to Yellowknife
Hi guys, I may be going to Yellowknife in the future for a posting. I have the Cpl and I am debating whether its worth going for the multi engine rating before I go up there. My goal is to find part time work while I would be up there for a few years. Do you think having a multi rating would increas...

Latest Engine Overhaul costs
I'm wondering what the latest and greatest engine overhauls are costing? ( 0-200 ; 0-320, 100 to 160 hp engines) I know there isn't "one bill fits all" for any engine. Has anyone overhauled their engines recently? How was your experience and what is your ballpark end figure? All the quotes I am comi...

Foreflight
I'm wondering how many people out there are using foreflight? I consider it an essential flight planning tool now. I can plan a flight from Halifax to Victoria in 5 minutes and find the cheapest airports to stop at along the way. It has saved me HOURS if not days of phone calls and flight planning. ...

Re: Diversion Question
Some day one might have to divert without the benefit of a GPS. I know, hard to imagine, but stay with me. I don't know what that long string of letters stands for, and its not an intuitive one, so its hard to remember. I just have the students remember a little rhyme. Circle, circle, line Heading,...

CPL, PPL, ATPL, etc
I know I have seen statistics on how many pilots there are in Canada and what category they fall into (Cpl, PPL, etc) but I cant remember where I found those stats.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
No real reason for it, I'm just curious.
Up to date stats would be preferable.

CPL Air exam
I have recently completed a personal milestone. I have completed the commercial air exam which also means that I am now a commercial pilot. I do not intend to fly commercially for work but I took part in the training to raise my awareness in aviation (and perhaps cheaper insurance on my aircraft). O...
