Re: Osoyoos - July 7 2015
Turns out it is a friend of mine-was able to get himself (only occupant) out of the burning Bonanza, but airlifted to Vancouver VGH ICU now. I have flown with him, and would fly again with him...careful, competent, and keeps his airplane (as well as his cars, boats, etc) in tip top mechanical condit...

Re: A Steep Learning Curve
I encourage people not to read Malcolm Gladwell. While a very good writer, he is the type of guy who can advance an idea without providing any evidence and people treat it as gospel. For example, this 10000 hour rule. Do you flounder for 10000 hrs until on hour 10001 you "get it". The entirety of t...

Re: New owner - throwing myself to wolves
Personally if I were you I would have the annual done in the USA, set up a trust to own the aircraft and keep it N registered. You'll save yourself the import costs + 2K annually on insurance to start. I would verify that first, my understanding is that a N registered aircraft can only be in Canada...

Re: Go fly a Pitts!
Akoch went up with me on Monday for his first intro to Acro. It was a sunny 30 degree day, two guys in a bubble canopy, makes for an slightly uncomfortable setting. We went out to the practice area, and did a few stalls, (although Akoch pointed out correctly that they weren't full, deep stalls) with...

Re: Cessna - Glider Midair Collision near Pemberton
My condolences to all involved. In 1999, I was being checked out in a new (to me) aircraft in a practice area near Boundary Bay airport, we (the check pilot and myself) had three instances of see and avoid within 15 min, we decided it was too busy for us that day, we needed to be up when it was quie...

Re: Can you get checked out on tail draggers...
To the Stearman pilot, it looks ok to move forward, because he can't see any obstruction out the sides, on either side of the nose. Agreed, I once did not see a fuel truck in front of me, only because I was S-turning did I finally see it. You have to stay straight using what you see behind the wing...

Re: Can you get checked out on tail draggers...
FWIW, I did my my tailwheel training in a Christen Eagle, from Zero (tailwheel) Hours to being safe (just not pretty). I don't know many pilots that have had the tower ask " Is everything okay?" after one of their landings. Not an experience I would recommend. After a few years of flying the ...

Re: Spin Training
As you're ~30 degrees through the turn at the top, do you slowly reduce the throttle to idle? Yup. You wouldn't believe how easy it makes the hhead. You aren't fighting the prop in the pivot, with your ineffective flight controls (at near-zero airspeed) And, it reduces your pivot radius (bonus). I ...
