Re: LAS losing subsidies
Interesting theory, however LAS is 100% privately owned. There are no investor meetings. The aircraft that are for sale are in keeping with business model.

I Fly for Pie, now in YNJ
It'll be nice to have "I fly of pie" closer to me. I suspect I may gain a few unwanted pounds  as a result. Cant wait to check out the new location, best of luck with the new venture and I'm confident You'll receive much better treatment from YNJ airport than you did in "The Wack". From the La...

Re: Crop Spraying
I'm sure you are right. This situation is a little different though as they will be operated by a large company that will not be using them outside of their own business. Its all in its infancy and details are a little sketchy but I'm pretty confident he'll go ahead.

Crop Spraying
Hi All, I know very little about crop spraying but was hoping someone could shed a little light on what's involved in this side of the industry. A friend of mine is going to purchase several Air Tractor 802 aircraft and has asked me for a little help as I am a pilot. I thought I'd throw it out there...

Re: How would you route IFR from CYKZ to CYHM? No pref. rout
I ran your routing through a flight planning engine that generates "optimized", "ATC preferred" or "preferred" routes and it spat out "DCT". With a leg that short filing direct is more than acceptable especially with a lack of a preferred route. As an alternate CYKF at 7000ft is only 26nm away. Hope...

Re: what do you look for in FBO
In most cases the company not the pilot would choose the FBO. Although fuel prices are a major factor they are certainly not the only factor. Speed, accuracy and a smile go a long way for me. I usually call ahead and give the FBO a heads up I'm coming in and will need fuel etc. If I pull in and the ...

Re: Abbotsford Shell - Olympics
To be fair, the FBO's that are charging that amount have spent tens of thousands of dollars converting areas of their facilities to accomodate CATSA and all the other "initiatives" with which they must comply. The charges are to try and recoup money spent solely because of the olympics with which we...

Re: VFR pilot into IMC
if you don't have an IFR, don't fly IMC. IFR procedures are all laid out, there is no fu$&ing around, an altitude is an altitude, a track is a track. If you you follow the map and the approach, you're good, if you don't you're not. descending blindly into cloud is not a good plan no matter how bulle...

Advice from "Money Sense" magazine
I read an article in this month's Money Sense offering some sound advice to potential students with regard to student debt versus income. "You should be in a position to earn at least $10,000 a year more than your total student debt after you graduate. Here's an example. If you graduate with student...

Re: heavy vs biz jet performence
Pygmie. You are absolutely right I stand corrected. The 47 and 77 is certified to 430. I've never seen one up there but I guess that doesn't mean they won't do it. I've been to 510 twice and its not the most relaxing place to be, mid-forties much better, more margin, less lumps growing on the neck.

Re: heavy vs biz jet performence
No airliners are certified over 410. There are a number of business jets that will do 510, as was stated though most roll around in the mid-forties. As for climb rates Invertago said it best. I do remember seeing something about a Lear 25 having the fastest time to climb to 350.

after a rather firm arrival, executed by the training captain I was flying with, his fourteen year old son who was in the back for the flight said "dad did you land or were we shot down?" I just about pissed myself laughing.

Re: Fuel Burn
You could fill it up, fly for an hour then fill it up again. Next leg fly for two hours and do the same thing. I'm guessing that would give you an aircraft specific fuel burn for your climb and cruise portions. That rule of thumb is interesting I certainly haven't heard that before. Moot point now I...

AC or Thomas Cooke?
I will be travelling to the UK in fall and have a choice between a Transat flight operated by Thomas Cooke in a 330-200 or Air Canada in a 777-300 saving about 40 min flight time. The price is virtually the same so the choice is between carriers rather than dictated by price. I have never flown with...

Red Pass and seat upgrades?
I'm travelling with AC later this week to Europe. I don't work for an airline but have a red pass. Is there any use bringing it with me to the check in counter to try for an upgrade or should I leave it at home? Thanks,
