Re: New pay scales
This is a mid-contract LOU that is being voted on to raise the wages. The details you mention remain the same as per the current contract, which you can get here: http://safeflights.ca/uploads/Labour_Agreements_Canada/Sunwing%20-%20Collective%20Agreement%20No%204%20_20MAY2021_FINAL.pdf Thanks for t...

Re: New pay scales
Pay is big but what about other details in the contract? Reserve rules, min contracted rest, per diems etc?
Hypothetically (and I'd bet this isn't the case) if there was zero per diems then you'd be losing money by comparison to others in the industry. Need to see the big picture.

Re: Overtime
Judging by this thread I'd say don't rely on overtime. If you don't think you can afford it then don't go to AC. Sunwing's contract set them up as the best paid 737 pilots in Canada. Their top scale pay beats even AC on the 737 (if only by a couple dollars per credit hour). They also have no flat pa...

Re: Best guess when recalls could happen
That's my line of thinking as well. I figure 12-24 months to get recalled at Jazz depending on seniority. I was in the hiring pool at AC before all of this went down and was expecting a call for April/May GS (references were called and all) and it seems like now I will most likely get on with AC in...

AA5078 24 Aug 2018
So on Friday Bluestreak 5078 had to do an emergency descent to 10,000 and divert. I had just switched onto the frequency after they were in the descent so i don't know the cause (cabin/cockpit smoke etc) or if it was just a decompression due to something. As far as i know they diverted to Greensboro...

Re: How are People Filing IFR Flight Plans?
Strictly over the phone. IFR flight plan or Itinerary for multiple uncontrolled airport hops. We use an excel sheet with some macros for our flight planning. Our Chief of Ops is really good with that stuff. Since we mostly just go to the 5 same airports repeatedly I do it from memory usually. Depart...

I've been working at Thunder for a few years now. I've been happy here overall though my experience might be a little different since I'm on the King Air and not the MU-2.

Re: New Flight Duty Time Regs are going to happen?
As a guy in a 703 the kind of frustrating thing for me is that there is no duty time limits in the scope of week or month. I fly 20-24 days a month with most days over 8 hours. However we also spend a fair bit of time on the ground. Sometimes it's just 1 leg up hold a few hours and 1 leg down. We do...

I look at the blocking of traffic as crossing the line even if it wasn't the highway. I support strike action and if workers want to stop the airplanes from moving by not showing up to work or slowing down the system so only half the aircraft movements occur (assuming it's within their legal strike ...

Re: Livin the dream 3
If you're at idle thrust how does a speed brake affect fuel consumption? In theory if you need your speed brakes now then there was a time where you could have used less power earlier on. Less power earlier means less fuel used. Of course it's hard to plan for all that. Even a few knots of wind can...

Re: Northern Air Carriers Feeling the Pinch.
Perhaps many executives can't see the forest for the trees. There's no pilot shortage until we have to cancel a flight because of a shortage of pilots. I'm pretty sure that's the approach my company is taking. Thats pretty much the case. Nobody in management at present has ever seen such a thing ha...

Re: ATC Survey, Please Help
I put mostly 6s across the board. Both sides have a job to do and no one is perfect. I've met a few controllers personally and I can vouch that they are as human as the pilots flying the airplanes. (I know blasphemy right?) ATC/FSS/Nav Can wants everyone to get home safe and pilots want the same. No...

I can see some grey areas here. I've had to load electric wheelchairs in the back of a dash-8 with a forklift. It's not easy and it does take up a lot of space. There are also risks to the loading crews if something does go wrong in loading. It can be accommodated in the dash but if the door isn't b...

Re: New Flight Duty Time Regs are going to happen?
A lot of TC regulations seem to be based off how many people could be killed if the plane crashes. Kind of a morbid way to put it but look at the licencing requirements for a pilot with an ultralight or rec permit who can carry 1 non-paying passenger vs a CPL pilot flying 703 or an AAs pilot flying ...

Re: Georgian CRJ YYZ
Actually we block around 85h a month, way more if you want to do overtime... that's almost $39k a year plus $5k in perdiems, just giving you the facts. That's good to hear then. I was going by a chart I had seen that showed only 30k/year but maybe it was based on less hours. Plus per diems were not...

Re: Georgian CRJ YYZ
What's sad is that I'm making more than 30K/year as an FO in a 703 turbo prop job. I would be taking a pay cut from entry level to go entry level. I don't know how the per diems work so maybe they pay out enough to make it sort of worth it? I've been kinda debating myself on if I should stick it out...

It's hard to believe I would need to take such a pay cut from a 703 to go to Georgian.
$29,669/year for entry FO? Ouch

A shortage of 3000 hour ATPL pilots? Possible with current trends.
A shortage of 200 hour CPL pilots clawing at each other to work a ramp for a chance at flying? Not likely.
(Hint: Most of us here have been one of those)

It's obvious that instructors have lost their way and need to take new lessons on how to teach.

Re: how can I improve my landings?
"Trouble with landings", generally, means you don't know the basic fundamentals of flying and your instructor, most probably, does not know how to fly, because he was never taught how to fly in the incestuous training system of only hiring those who were trained by those they trained etc. I've been...

Re: Definition of cross-country
A touch-and-go is landing. However minor this might be, touch and go "landings" are not allowed on flight tests (specifically PPL and CPL). I'm not sure if that means anything or not to this issue but something to consider. It might be more about the risks of a gear up and the demonstration of actu...
