What about if something happens and you require maintenance on a C reg plane while in the US? Can any US mechanic execute and log any maintenance?

Re: INRAT advice
I used the dauntless app and it worked great - for studying for the test. It has a great feature that allows you to 'discard' questions that you excel at and focus on the areas that need improvement. I absorbed more knowledge from the aim, and harvs air programs (among others), but the dauntless app...

GPS updates will be a big additional cost - mine is about $1000/yr
keeping everything else serviceable can cost more (if it breaks) - VOR radios and indicators, etc

Re: SOP to land with 10 degrees of flaps in 172?
I don't know why FTUs would reccomend this practice, but I know when I bombed around the country in my own 172, I very rarely had any reason to land with full flaps. A couple rough runways, gravel runways where I wanted to touch down as slow as possible. But anything paved there was never any reason...

Re: SOP to land with 10 degrees of flaps in 172?
Higher nose at touchdown. Less chance of landing on the nosewheel
When I owned my 172, every landing was no flap, unless I was dealing with a runway under 1500 feet.

Re: My First ILS to minimums
dirtdr, Regarding your comment on this being your filed alternate, you seem to be implying that you filed a "destination" with YEG as your alternate but intended to land at YEG in the first place, is this the case? From your post you seem to respect flying and take currency seriously, I hope this i...

My vote goes for the Dauntless App.
I spent weeks on Pilottraining and other resources.... but a week with the dauntless app got me ready for the test.
Learning Real world IFR - well thats another step

Re: My First ILS to minimums
I am open to constructive criticism, but I'll go on the defensive here for a little bit. ... to me is more than full scale deflection of the localizer which requires a go-around if you're still IFR. Never did the LOC reach more than half scale deflection. When it did get close to half, I had already...

Re: My First ILS to minimums
So there is room for improvement. I get it. But that has not been what has been beating me up over this approach. What gets me is why I was there in the first place? I am a private pilot. My own airplane. Very current (for a weekend warrior). I fly this plane close to 50 hrs/month. I have had my ins...

Re: Hitching a ride?
There are facebook groups and other club sites that will have a section to post "Hey, Im going to xxx fly-in(?) next weekend from yyy. I have x empty seats if someone wants to come" I would likely engage in this and welcome a passenger along that wants to go to the same place as me. Problem is, I us...
