Re: Looking into Rotational positions for FO

PAL does rotational out of YBX on the 1900D. 2weeks on/2 weeks off, and they will rotate you from anywhere on the PAL network. Bilingual is a great asset flying on the Quebec North Shore.

Re: Other Options

AMSD at PAL Aerospace looks like a good gig. Know a few there and they like it. They have King Airs based in YHZ, YYT and YQQ. Pretty strict on having 1500TT tho due to the contracts they have.

Re: Samra Saron new exams?

I wrote both SARON and SAMRA in the past month. At first, I was studying with Sharper Edge ATPL, but there is a lot of stuff that book does not cover. Also lots of mistakes in the book. I ended up buying online ATPL groundschool from pilottraining.ca for $250, and it is much more helpful. Slides for...

Re: Retention Bonus

Is the one time retention bonus after 2-3 years still being offered to new hires or was that only temporary ?

Even without the one time bonus, they seem to pay slightly better than Jazz and Encore.

Re: Encore Commuting policy

How easy would the commute be from YQM to YYZ? Layovers in YQM if you bid for them? Since scheduling is not seniority based, curious how many days of reserve an FO usually gets a month. Obviously makes the commute a bit harder. Are long pairings available, making it easier to have several days off i...

Re: PPL Flight Test

I recommend reading the PPL Flight Test Guide. There are 4 sections that you are evaluated on on the ground, and it says what they evaluate you on in each section. 1 - Documents and Airworthiness 2 - Aeroplane Performance 3 - Weight and Balance 4 - Pre-Flight Planning Procedures (Navigation) The onl...

Re: Moncton Flight College vs Air Richelieu (Montreal)

That is true, although Fredericton currently only has the China program. There is no domestic students currently training in Fredericton, unless maybe a couple students doing a modular PPL. The diploma program and 1 year ICPC program are only offered in Moncton.

Re: Moncton Flight College vs Air Richelieu (Montreal)

I have done my training at Moncton Flight College and can give you a bit of info. In general, it is a pretty great school and I enjoyed doing my training there. They have a large fleet, approx 30 DA20, 3 C172, 3 PA44. Weather in the Maritimes can be all over the place, which can slow things down in ...

Re: Provincial YHZ 1900

As per their website, they use the 1900 on the YHZ-YCL-YWK route, you can see what aircraft is currently operated on each route. I believe they also have one based in YBX doing YBX-YIF-YHR-YNA. I know a guy that was doing 14 on/14 off based in YBX, but I don't think YHZ is rotational. I think they a...

Re: CPL Written Nav Questions

For the other subjects, I would say most questions are comparable to what you will find in Sharper Edge. Most questions are straight forward and not tricky at all. Reading the questions twice also helps. I did all 600 questions in Sharper Edge before the exam and it was definitely worth it. I also u...

Re: CPL Written Nav Questions

I wrote my CPL written exam last week. Compared to Sharper Edge, I found the answers on TC to be not as close together. Example : TC would've been something like A) 34 min B) 39 min C) 48 min D) 59min. Lots of VOR / ADF / NDB questions. VOT checks. Custom clearance. And dont be surprised if they mak...

Re: how do kids afford this racket???

After finishing high school, I went to university for a business degree. I worked part-time while in university and full time every summer. I managed to finish university without debts. I then worked for a year at a decently paying accounting job. That year made me realize I didn't wanna stare at th...

Looking at the posting for First Officers - Halifax Base.

I was under the impression YHZ was a senior base and that most new FO were YTZ based for a couple years. Does anyone know if YHZ base is going to junior FO these days? Is it mostly 3-4 days pairings for YHZ based?
