Re: Temporary foreign pilots in 2013
Giles, yes I know of around a dozen who work in Australia as foreign workers for the summer on Ag or Fire work. That's just the ones I know. I'm not talking about airline flying, charter work or Tim Hortens employees. The agricultural season is short in Canada and goes for around 3 months, there are...

Re: Temporary foreign pilots in 2013
Nacho, a lot of Canadians go to Australia both for Ag work and fire work, fixed wing and chopper. It is a very similar process for both countries. Several people have made such insinuations but can we have proof, details, numbers, statistics etc ? Just vague claims and insinuations just wont cut it...

Re: Temporary foreign pilots in 2013
Indanao, Australian pilots have an Australian Ag rating which is more involved and more hours than the Canadian training.

To be insured Ag you have to have done a recognised Ag rating, Batairspray are one of those who do them.

So some of you suggest all the Canadian pilots who go to Australia for the Summer should not be allowed to go?

182, good load, easy handling, good cruise speed. Will do 95% of anything a tailwheel will do. Contrary to what some say WILL work out of short rough strips.

Re: Low wing STOL?
Ground effect is actually better on a low wing aircraft, you get more cusion because the wing is closer. Just the same as the higher you are the less ground effect you have until about a wingspan were it disapears. The more ground effect the slower you can go. That becomes a problem when the aileron...

Re: Low wing STOL?
The fore . to the Pac750 the Fletcher is a pretty good short field performer as well. Powered by a 720 lycoming it could out perform a Beaver on most strips. As an Ag aircraft the Fletcher could get 1200 kilo's of fertiliser off in 350 metres at seal level, usually carry a 950 kilo load off a 700 me...

Re: French in Radio
The French speaking on the radio is not just limited to Quebec, I heard it from the East right to the middle of the country. Admittedly not much in the Prairies but there was still an odd call. In Quebec when there are 5 or 6 aircraft inbound and in the circuit with 3 or so speaking French tends to ...

Power settings? Type of miss? Change of supply of fuel? Been wet and very humid lately? How old the plugs? How many hours on the engine? Did they use old mag/plug leads when rebuilt? How log since the mags were looked at? What's the oil burn? Has it got an auto carb? If not how do you set the mixtur...

Pretty stupid thing to do with a million dollar plus aircraft, come to think of it that would be pretty stupid with a $30,000 Pawnee.

Re: RCMP drone bites the dust
The only UAV's that work well are the multi million dollar military machinery. The bulk of what is trying to be sold is not much better than very cheap hobbyist stuff. As for using them for AG it's just impractical. You could but who is going to pay millions over and above the cost of a million doll...

Interesting when the Rail boss first commented he stated it was the employees fault, I'm sure it was only a day or so after the accident. You would think there would need to be some fairly thorough investigation before any blame?

Re: Irrational Pilots
An example of operating out of the envelope would be Beavers on AG work, they have been flying at between 6000 and 6500 pounds for over 40 years. There have been accidents mostly pilot error with a few structural. Structural problems (2 aircraft as far as I know in the early 60's) were the early fai...
