Re: Westjet cabin incident, good thing it wasn't United or AC
I believe you are closer to the truth than you realize! A lot of industries/businesses, perhaps now-a-days including WestJet have to get back to the point of remembering that they are in a service industry, they are in business to serve the customer nothing else! Agree, safety should never be compro...

Re: Grace Lake airport at The Pas closing
Ah, the memories back in my early days with Lambs. Used to be quite an operation there with Lambs and MGAS to mention two of the operators, as well as private aircraft etc....

Re: cover up ?
In most instances I don't believe there's a cover up, except for maybe the odd DC-8 in Gander that caused CASB (http://www.sandford.org/gandercrash/main/index.shtml) to be destroyed..... The investigations do sometimes seem to take longer than expected. For example, it's been ~2 years since Carson A...

Re: Journey Log Defect reporting?
Concur! It's been required to enter defects in the aircraft journey log for longer than any of us have been alive. There should be no further requirement to increase punishment or lengthen a checklist. Every pilot that receives a licence knows of this requirement since he had to start filling out lo...

Now there's a name I haven't heard since the 70's..... Howard Hawley aka Huff 'n Puff. Last time I saw him was at Lambs on -3's. Great old pics of BMW. Do you have any info on the pics other than the pilot Tom Laurie? BMW was written off while landing on skis at Bigstone Lake MB on March 12, 1965. O...

Re: Sully - The Movie
I have not seen the movie. But like so many of these US productions, I suspect they are making a hero out of someone who just did their job? Wouldn't everyone of you out there tried to perform a like action? Isn't it your job to "fly the airplane?" Where the hell is John Wayne when you need him? :tw...

Re: CARs Deluxe
I too am saddened by the upcoming demise of CAR's Deluxe. IMO it one of the best things to ever come onto the Canadian aviation scene. Trying to find a reference on the new CAR's location on the Justice site is beyond painful! But, I can understand it from the TC brass perspective, 200 licence at $2...

Re: Transport Canada placed on short leash by Treasury Board
Remember, aviation is only a small segment of Transport Canada's mandate. Rail, shipping etc play a greater part of their work. Of course whwn we see anything about TC, we naturally just think about aviation, not the whole picture. TC has finally gotten their act together and hired more inspectors, ...

Re: Pacific Western Airlines B737 & Wardair B727 Vintage Mod
Good looking models. Those of us that have been in the business for a while can remember it was a different time and place in aviation history. Today, some things are better, and some things are worse. Seemed like a lot more fun back then, but maybe it was just the ignorance of youth? 8) I have just...

Re: Taxis, pilots, and tipping
Point to ponder..... We tip the waitress in the restaurant that brings us our meal, and smile at her doing it. What do you tip the fuel man that puts the go juice in your aircraft at -40? Just wondering... Hmmm, thought so. Why are you being so inconsiderate to him/her?

And those benefits would be what, housing we don't need and won't need for > 20 years? Everything that deals/delt with the closing of YXD makes me sick. Corrupt politics at its finest, the city screwed MANY people and businesses and couldnt give a rats ass about em. ...and the benefits will outweigh...

Re: Edmonton 40 story hi rise---- city centre airport??
It was always speculated that Mandel was the push behind closing the City Center Airport strictly for personal gain as he is a real estate developer. Not sure if anything could ever be proved or not, and not sure it would do any good at this late of date either? Pretty sad just the same if true, tha...

Re: AME Conference
Did the organizers ensure the various AME assosiations were made aware of and invited to attend? Or did they perceive it as a private event? It was good. It was more relevant to a "jet guy" in the topics. This was not made to form a new AME association. The mindset was to bring maintenance people to...

Does Keystone provide their own fuel in YTH or is it provided by the airport facility? Curious from your statement stating wrong fuel and one operator.....

Could very well be how it's supposed to work, but....... My thoughts on this is that it needs to be solved quick! I feel the cause of this crash, that only by good luck didn't end much more seriously, needs to be addressed with considerably with more haste than say the recent German Wings incident. ...

That is a great find. Lots of intersting stuff in there. What it really brought to mind though is up until the Trudeau era, we actually had a real airforce complete with pride! Harper it seems is trying to rebuild our military, but it's a long road after decades of neglect and downsizing by the cons...

Re: 1984 Wapiti Aviation Crash Info
It was a good book and pretty well written by Mr. Shaben's daughter. One part I personally found interesting, was why Mr Shaben left politics after the terms he served; the PC party of Alberta was becoming too corrupt with too many patronage appointments, payoffs and the like. He certainly seemed to...

Re: AME Wages - AME's Unite!!
Check out shop rates in aviation compared to vehicles or heavy equipment shop rates. Operators are keeping shop rates low to under cut the next guy. Low shop/tariff rates seems to equal low wages .... Go figure! We don't need Red Seal. Red Seal allows trades people to work between provinces, as trad...
