Re: Calls for upcming courses
To clarify, and all this is subject to change. the last hiring guesstimate was as high as 40 for 2012. There is a groundschool in now of 6. 40-6=34, so there's potentially another 34 to be hired this year. Next groundschool is tentatively scheduled for July. Usually there's 8 per class so figure cou...

Re: Calls for upcoming courses
Dave will have the latest and greatest but as of about three weeks ago, the number I'd heard was around 30 new hires for 2011. I think the first 8 start Monday. Then 4 in August leaving 18 or so for the rest of the year. This is all second and third hand info. Good luck.

Re: Interested by Sky Regional Airlines, please consider
Jazz doesn't pay a dividend, they pay a distribution as they are a trust company. Very different when the taxman cometh. Instead of complaining about it, why not partake? This past week, Jazz unitholders voted to convert to a corporation. When that happens on January 1st, then they'll pay a dividend...

Re: Southwest Airlines purchases Air Tran
Johnny, you worked for Royal which, if you'll recall, was a Michel LeBlanc company. Your contract wasn't worth the paper it was written on. But you already knew that. As for this Southwest deal, it's a merger, not an acquisition (inquisition?) so one would have to think that the seniority list situa...

I wasn't at any meetings today so take it with a grain of salt.

Re: Unlikely Partnership
I also saw this article and was intrigued despite the typical Jang reporting. I think you're thread title should be something like "Who's Gonna Get The Widebodies?" or " 767's for Jazz?". The time could also be right for WestJet. Dip the toes into the widebody realm like the old Transat deal ...

Ask Virgin Blue about adding Jungle Jets to an NG fleet. See if you can find Brett Godfrey, WestJet board member and CEO of Virgin Blue.
My two cents: If they were a good idea, they'd be here already.

It's dry leased in Europe 'til September-ish.
And I suspect that Enerjet will keep relatively busy with Suncor and whatever else they can. I wouldn't count 'em out yet there junky.

Re: Sean Durfy quit?!
I think what JJJ was saying was your answer was incomplete. While it's true what you say about OT for credits scheduled over 82.5, you also get OT for anything from Opentime at min 4.5hrs/day. You could also do more than 82.5hrs all at straight if you picked up work out of the Tradeboard. What FICU ...

Re: New Slot Times in Laguardia For WestJet
I recommend to those interested to read about the history of Delta Airlines. There are many WestJet similarities, maybe as many as Southwest. As for LGA, with 5 slots and the "perimeter" restrictions, it'll be something like 3/day out of YYZ and 2 out of YUL to start. YOW? All subject to regulatory ...

Re: Does anyone else find this sleezy?
While there's black (Raven=sleazy) and white (WestJet's spin), let's maybe agree on a shade of grey and call it a win-win. There's media coverage, employees and even all Canadians feel good about providing some help, some organizations get some positive press but most importantly, some very desperat...

Re: anybody been called yet?
Canam, With only 30-40 hired over the past year, and next to none at any other major airline in Canada, competition has likely gotten stronger for a job at WestJet. DaveP would know for sure. You might consider pming him directly here then try to come to YYC for a chat especially as you have no "ins...

Say Attitude, Why the hate for Enerjet? You are seriously put out by this operation. I think that you protest too much. Why? They turn you down or are you just an asshole? Personally, I haven't given 'em the chance to turn me down although they probably would. You see, I have an irregularly small pe...

Re: Say What You May About AC....
I didn't mean to imply that Sabre is not causing delays because it is. It's just not the end-of-the-world scenario that some may make it out to be. For the week ending November 8th, our rolling 30-day OTP is 69.1%. I would expect this number to rise as we get past including the first few Sabre days ...

Re: Say What You May About AC....
Before Sabre, you could check-in 24 hours prior and seat select at no cost. I assume it's still this way. We gave out free headsets when the TV's were new 4 or 5 years ago but that didn't last long. I'm pretty sure that we've always charged for movies. New tails 255, 256 and 257 are to be online rig...

Re: Say What You May About AC....
There's a delicious lentil/curry wrap that's available. Must have been sold out by the time they got to you STL.
Check that, it might only be available out of YVR.
Why were they late this time and how late were you at destination?

stl, some details please:
Were you given any reason for the delay? 2+ hours is indeed significant and you should have been told.
If not, maybe I can help- to and from where were you traveling and when?

Re: Nov 2009 Profit Share
No need to go on rumour. Profit Share to be paid on November 27th is from the second and third quarters equalling $1.185 million and $5.476 million respectively. A little math and we're getting $6.661 million. Better than a stick in the eye.

Re: Nov 2009 Profit Share
To answer WetDream, yes, the more employees the more profit is necessary to generate the same return as everybody gets some. The assumption is that if there's more employees, the company is bigger and therefore more profitable. Doesn't always work this way. The reality is that the profit is cyclic t...

Re: October G/S
It looks like I deleted the recent memo from crew planning, but I'm pretty sure it said 12 new hires in October so 2 groundschools of 6 each. Then I think it was 1 more groundschool of 6 to start in January. Also, 2 upgrades in November then 2 more in January. DaveP can confirm and/or review all thi...
