There was a pipleline route surveyed 30 years ago (or longer) which followed the Alaska Highway. Not sure how it got to Whitehorse, but from there to Watson to Ft Nelson to Ft St. John. The cutline is still visible from the air.

a little clicking around and you learn SPOT is a subsidiary of GlobalStar. Dunno if anyone else has had the "joy" of using a GlobalStar phone, but we couldnt get a signal 70 K west of lillooet BC, standing in an open field. I love how the press make it sound like the sky is falling. It had a small tear, which got worse with the inside pressure, so they turned the inflation fans off....

When you are flying during in the daytime, and you have build-ups or isolated cells, practice using the weather radar. Try the tilt, gain and different range settings to make youself more comfortable using the unit. That way when you can't see them at night, you'll know what to expect on the screen.

Whitehorse has been getting wide bodies from Europe for years. Lots of German tourists in the summer!
