It always seems to happen when conducting a visual approach. Here's another AC incident on a visual approach into Kelowna.

Re: Exhaust De/Anti-Icing Question/Idea
I understand that a heated leading edge has to be hot enough to vaporize the moisture or water droplets. If the wing isn't hot enough you will run into a "run back" condition, where the moisture will simply run back and freeze.

Re: Aviation Medical Costs
Here in the states I was getting my Class 1 medical for $50 and it lasted for two years, couldn't be a flag carrier captain after 6 months. In Canada the same medical, cat 1 - over 40, and time frame was costing over $600....... Hmmm. Yes but you have "free" medical coverage.

Wasn't there a similar icing encounter a few years ago in BC? Between Cranbrook and Kelowna a B200 cooked both engines because of icing and trying to maintain MOCA.

Re: windshield cleaning stuff
I have to agree with RainX, works great. After you have a clean and dry windscreen apply the RainX, then all you need is a squirt bottle with a couple drops of dish soap and water. Spray it on and the bugs wipe right off with a soft cloth. Reminds me of that snag list…."dead bugs on windshield - liv...

Re: Whats the ideal plane for me?
If you are gonna get a 421 you might as well get a turbine. At least it will not be in the hangar undergoing maintenance. 421's are an AME's retirement plan. They are poor performers, burn lots of gas, slow, runway lovers. Low TBO and expensive when it comes to overhaul. They are nice and quiet in f...
