Yeah..."slightly shattered" = "slightly written off". The whole thing has that homebuilt/ultralight feel to it. Maybe they saw too many of those cubdriver watersking videos.

You re right ahramin. Niether the cliff robertson original nor this one made any sense. Both of them glamorize flying while drunk or hungover, which has to be the most moronic hollywood twist of reality there is. All either one can do is ruin your judgement, make you more suceptible to panic, and......

By the time you re flying a kingair or the like you should be grown up enough to no longer feel the need to buzz your buddys/girlfriend/random strangers. And before that point in your career you should be working hard enough at building a professional reputation that buzzjobs should be out of the qu...

Re: CAP GEN question!!! please help
Once you have a handle on which chart you re supposed to be using, its pretty easy to remember the limiting numbers for the apprchs that you use the most. Be sure to read the bit in the cap gen about when an apprch ban is in effect, particulary of you fly north of 60. Also, futher to the point about...

Re: cessna 180 idea?????
Im assuming the eng and prop are junk, so the times for those dont matter. You ll need to figure on say, 30 K for a new eng, plus the prop. Not sure what that will cost. Price it all out, plus install, plus a good margin for stuff that will crop up....an extra day or two in the shop ads up into thou...

Re: Cylinder Cracking
Whats relevent is how fast or slow the engine cools. Yanking power off, going full rich at 10000 feet, or suddenly increasing airspeed at low OAT will all shock cool things. A CHT guage will tell you clearly what you can and cant get away with. Without one, you have to go by something. Inch a min is...

Wow. Pretty cool ideas to avoid some of the pain and suffering of winter flying. I dont even have remote start on my truck though... If you want to keep it real simple, a couple $90 dollar buddy heaters from canadian tire stuck into the blanketed cowel, plus one more in the cabin for a few hours wil...

Meaning some of them are quite hard to fly and may try to kill you unexpectedly in ways a normal airplane cant.

Mmmmmkay. Hundreds of miles at night, under the radar, with the master off? Quite the stunt. Must be an easier way to make a dishonest living.

True. Parts of that vid gave me the creeps though. Nothing to see out there and it would spoil the fun for me to have to devote most of my attention to not wandering verticaly, with few visual cues. The aircam looks like a lot of fun. It would be my first choice if sightseeing down low was my main u...

Re: Flying down low
Dont fly low over glassy water at all. Its hazardous enough even for landing on. Also in addition to the other good advice above, have lots of preformance to spare. You want to be able to climb quick and easy if you suddenly find you havent thought far enough ahead.

Good post. I already have a dipstick. Cost .99 cents, heh, heh. But seriously, its a good reminder for all of us to not rely entirely on the guages, no matter how supposedly precise they are. I ve had similar experiences with capaticence type indicators. They re the only indication you have in some ...
