Re: apprentichship in foreign country question

As long as the guy signing your logbook has a Canadian licence and you are working on civil registered aircraft it shouldn't be a problem. I had an M1 licence and was working overseas and had my logbook signed by a guy from Canada so i could get my M2 endorsement and it was accepted without question...

Re: Thailand expands its seaplane fleet...

I just sold my house in Bangkok 2 months ago and am glad that i did, feel sorry for the lady who bought it but she may still make it out okay. Living in the Gulf of Thailand now so my only worry is when the next big earthquake will hit........... :D

Re: Fix-wing to Helicopter flying job.

I would try Great Slave Helicopters, i have a friend who was in your position 3-4 years ago and had a few thousand hours fixed-wing bush work then converted to rotary and was hired on. They started him out on the 206, and he is now rated on the 500 and AS350. Best of luck!!!!!

Re: Why are AME's underpaid?

I wouldn't consider myself underpaid, i am currently making a six figure salary for 6 months work and living in a country where my money goes a lot farther than it would back in Canada. When I left to work overseas I was making almost the same as i am now but then you have to factor in tax and cost ...

Re: Helicopter Engineer's Tool Bag/Box/Case

I use the 1550 case and have been for years now. I modified it so that it has 5 trays for my tools made out of packing foam and reinforced on the bottom and also has handles so I can remove them easy. I like the Pelican cases as they seem to stand up better to the abuse from shipping it around the w...

Re: Diabetic pilot aims for record-breaking flight

Best of luck to him! Being a Insulin dependant diabetic myself since a young age and wanting to do nothing else but fly then having your dream shot down can be tough. Having a low blood sugar on the ground can be scary enough, hoping that he monitors his levels frequently while in the air and it all...

I can tell you that the base is not Top-Secret as pretty much anyone within 50km of Dubai knows it's there, in fact the US, Germany, Dutch, Australians, and UK are also there. I know this because I spent almost a year and a half working right beside the Canadian and Australian contingent while worki...

I fly every month on the A380 on the leg from DXB-BKK from LOS and I have to say it is very quiet and the room in economy is good. Bit of a pain sometimes though hitting immigration in BKK.

Re: AME Licence Verification

I guess you mentionning the FAA means you need it in order to get your application for an A&P approved, doesn't it? What I did a few years back, other than producing the required paperwork, I got one Inspector from the TC office in Dorval to write me a nice little letter certifying that I do have a...

rh350--how many years have you done this 100 g/year with a month on/month off? How long have you lived in Thailand? Seems like you have a good gig there. Currently on a 6/6 rotation where I am now, been doing this sort of rotation or similar for about 10 years now both overseas and in Canada and on...

Re: Any advice for a Noob?

Is the medical and schooling system in Thailand 3-4 times better than in Canada? How about social security? What can a person expect to receive when they retire there? I have a buddy himself who married a local Thai girl and had a kid with her. He is trying desperately to leave there now as he is f...

A not so shot in the dark, I d say NO. So is that the pot o gold for ame's?? Go overseas? How about making 100g in canada?? Isn't that what most are desiring? Very few find going overseas a long term option, and even fewer will actually find opportunities that will take them there. Fact is, it ain'...

Re: Any advice for a Noob?

What can you expect when you finish your fourth year of AME training, depends on where you work. You have the oportunity to work airline, helicopter, international, go north, third party maintenance, small AMO, large AMO, etc. The world is your oyster, Bullshit. I challenged you and a few others re...

To get the GCAA license you just have to write the Air Regs if you have been licensed for 5 years or can prove you have CRS authority for 2 years. If not you will be required to write all 5 modules and pass within 1 year. I just had to write a multiple choice and 2 essay questions for the Air Regs. ...
