Question about cabin noise in Dash 8

My cousin and I just flew from Moncton to Toronto on a Dash8. We were in row 17 and found it to be incredibly noisy. Oddly enough, it was the noisiest during cruise, not during the climb. The noise seemed to be a combination of prop noise and cabin vibration. The thing rattled like a box of saw blad...

Re: Equilibrium

I remember the instructor during ground school saying there are 3 times when a plane is in equilibrium: 1) Level flight at constant speed 2) Climb at constant speed 3) Descent at constant speed At first it seems odd that equilibrium can occur while climbing or descending but once you figure out that...

Re: Turkish Airlines Makes Emergency Landing in Istanbul

Wasn't there recently a recent thread, lively debated, which discussed the pros and cons of a go-around after initial ground contact ? And here is an actual example. Mind you, that thread was centred around a single engine aircraft and involved a prop strike, but this is still a pretty fitting examp...

Re: Germanwings A320 Plane Crashes in Southern France

Commercial pilots can fly while on ssri. Yes, but I wonder how over-reaching the additional medical reporting procedure is. And that's my issue. Although a commercial pilot would not balk at having to meet higher medical standards, I have a feeling that the additional requirements are sometimes ove...

Re: Germanwings A320 Plane Crashes in Southern France

I feel bad for the poster a few weeks ago who was asking about getting his medical back after admitting to taking ssri's. People are going to be more and more scared to divulge anything to anyone any more. And as a result the only recourse will be for the government to strip away a few more of our ...

Re: How many hours to get PPL

It is definitely a combination of your instructor's endorsement and your own self-evaluation that will determine if/when you are ready. Because your instructor will not want to risk his/her reputation by having you fail your flight test. Moreover, depending on the school, the instructor may have bee...

Re: Hello.......

Like everything else, the "good old days" are gone from this forum at least. FTB In my opinion, the slow decline of a site's popularity is pretty common. I've been on a couple of other sites where the first few years were very active and enjoyable. Everyone brings something to the party and a lot i...

Re: Pay your medical fees

I still want to know why my first couple of years were free of medical fees but this year I got my first $55 request. Are the fees new or are they just finally being passed onto pilots ?

Also, what's an EK training pilot, and why is it bad to be Australian ?

Re: Fees etc.

I think it is rather obvious that fees of all kinds are on the rise because government services in general have wildly underestimated how much it costs and will cost to maintain programs and services. It is a constant balancing act between reducing service and/or asking for more money for that servi...

Re: Aviation medical fees

When exactly did the $55 fee start being billed ? Reading the linked information suggests to me that the fee has been around since 1998 but that they only recently started passing the fee onto the pilot directly. I don't get it. I've only had my license for 3 years and I think my first $55 fee was t...

Re: First flight will new PPL! And first abnormality in flig

I'm sure the OP is being gracious in giving CAT the benefit of the doubt, as he should. But he was likely also a little befuddled by what was NOT said, as opposed to what was said. The OP was relaying an interesting story about something unusual that happened and was probably looking for some enligh...

Re: First flight will new PPL! And first abnormality in flig

Now that you are a licensed pilot you need to rethink why you would be looking at the airspeed indicator as you are accelerating on the runway on take off. Given the entirety of the OP's story, I would think that this comment is a little out of place. Could be my naivety, but I think the fact that ...

Re: i thought this was good

That website must have some bugs in it. My brother live in California and our paycheques are similar. However, his house is twice the size of mine, he has 3 kids, an RV, several motorcycles, water toys, etc, etc. No website can convince me that his dollar doesn't go at least 20% further than mine. A...

Re: When do lower fuel prices = lower ticket prices?

I guess I'll trust the math skills of the corporate bean counters, but if "cost indexing" does actually work, the price at which it becomes a money-saving option must be hard to pin down. I mean, if it saved money to fly faster, then they'd obviously do it all the time. Since they don't appear to do...

Isn't Edenvale the one with the funky circuit pattern ?

Newbie is scared.

I second the Brampton recommendation. Had nothing but good meals there. Hanover however, has not been kind to my digestive tract.

1) How does the "view new posts" differ from "view active topics" ?

2) If view new posts is 'better', is there a way it could be active without logging in ....you know, for the lurkers ? :)

Re: Is ground briefing necessary

Of course, the flipside of this is getting toooooo much ground briefing. When reading the information outlining the cost of a PPL, my flight school factored in something like 10 hours of ground briefing. But mine was more like double that. Yes, I was partly to blame for sure....I found flying so fas...

Re: Interesting Incidents From Yesterday

If the OP doesn't mind me jumping in here, then I would like to ask a question about something that happened to me during my solo training which has to do with drift while on the runway, so it is somewhat relevant to this thread. I was practicing a grass field t/o one day, in what I assumed was litt...
