Re: Maintenance Engineers
Companies in general are just like us, they don't want to mess with you. They might need you again soon.

Re: Future AME Discouraged
Positive thoughts. As an AME or pilot ( I am both) we need to set the example. Otherwise leave and give others a chance to replace you successfully. There is a big world out there and enough options for anyone to be happy. John https://www.facebook.com/john.wannecke.3 https://www.linkedin.com/in/joh...

Re: Future AME Discouraged
Just read your reply. I cannot fully disagree with you as I am in this indiustry myself since 1996. Which makes it long enough to have some credibility. But the issue is that the only ones complaining about the wages are the ones that are either stuck with it or don't move on to where the sun shines...

Re: Future AME Discouraged
Don't discourage. Just be objective and realistic. The industry is for a certain kind of people and you myst remain realsitic on topics like shift work, moneytary expecatations and responsibilities. I know young folks who are interested. The problem is not with the industry but this new generation. ...

I did float flying for years in Yellowknife as a self-employed charter pilot. Float flying makes it all worth it.

I want to work.
56 yo licensed M1M2 (with CPL and charter company ownership experiences) is not hiding behind his age. I am incorporated, have experience, and lifelong learning behind me. Now I just want to work for a respectable wage and not wait out any more of the great aviation uncertainties. I have been done m...

Re: Maintenance Engineers
I am almost certain that it is not you or your company that is to blame on the issue. Anyone looking into working for you also will notice that Thunder Bay is a location to be get used to. I have been driving through a few times now and the condition of this town, would not make me move there if I h...

Re: Regarding AME Shortage
For those of us that are in our 50s and 60s, we have seen happy times and freedom and integrity. Aviation was never meant to be about survival, giving passengers a cookie for the meal they pay for, or the ever-present fear of losing our jobs. We were the folks that kept the airplanes in the air and ...

Re: Maintenaince Costs For Cessna 172s
Big difference between private annuals and corporate annuals.
My private `180 annual was 500.00 a few years ago and that went up to 3000.00 plus time fixing etc once it went 703 ops.
Needless to say, I had to do all the work, open up for access, etc etc.
Thought this info helps to negotiate prices.

Re: Maintenance Engineers
That may have something to do with your location. I would come on rotation or contract, but not full-time. 23 years in Yellowknife 2 vacations. In most cases, engineers get paid way less than when rests on our shoulders, hence wages are the number one driving force why people motivate themself to en...

Hire Me!
26 years in aviation, in maintenance since 2001, M1M2 licensed and CPL. I don't want to end my aviation life like this and actively fight the Covid situation. Currently living in Penticton due to family and would love to work rotational or contracts. I don't have type ratings as companies did not ha...

Re: Air Tindi Crash near Lutsel K'e
Wondering how we could have done so well all these years and how it now seems almost unbelievable what is going on in the local flying community. Glad I sold my plane early enough. Thoughts and sympathies to all who are exposed to this ongoing nightmare.

Hmmmm... Interesting. It is fun to see how opportunities may seem to wait for you but in the end it is harder to decide what to do with one's education than actually doing it. Thanks for all your input. I gives me food for thought...

Float Rating - pricing
It is quite interesting to see how people respond. The thing is, 300.00 per hour is the GOING rate, meaning, if you want to get your float endorsement here in Yellowknife (where all the flying happens) then this is what is will cost a person. There is no rip-off and there is not much profit involved...

Float Rating?
Hi Mr. Donalds, The reason why the 180 is not that busy right now is because the plane is more out of town than in town while I am finishing up my AME ticket south of here in a few months. A 180 engine wants to be kept running, so what is better than offering private training on site to somebody who...

People from around Yellowknife who are interested in a float rating (7 hrs of training) can drop me a line. I consider training people. 300.00 per hour, firm. Email: johnwa@ssimicro.com

Flying AME Bush (commercial) Pilot?
Did anyone hear about people being hired in the North as flying AME's? Are there companies who are interested in people who have that kind of education and also their own aircraft to get around with a toolbox in the back? I am someone who could fill that need but I am not sure if the aviation indust...

I have a C180 on EDO 2870 floats in the summer. The going rate in the north still is 300.00 per hour (1500.00) for the required 5 hours, now 7 hours. I had to pay it myself back then. I like flying and getting paid for it. If you call (867) 669-9253 we might be able to strike an affordable personal ...

OK, perhaps I have to snap a bit. I did work for a major airline in the north and back then the stories got real fantastic at times. But I never mentioned porn... Anyways, niothing against airline pilots, but this was a question of comparison between the two different types of heavy-equipment-operat...

Left (for work) the home base with a C180 on wheel skis in marginal VFR conditions. Everything was working fine and I had my 3 miles visibility at 1200 AGL. Twenty-five minutes later I found myself virtually within seconds in a vertical white-out and could not see the ground 50 feet above the snow. ...
