Re: Human Trash
Airlines don't need accidents, even small firms use triangulation, three people doing interviews to fly a Cessna 182 etc. With every year, it seems that pilots rely more and more on automation and a lack of general flying skills, is being replaced by computer gamers, and those with fast typing skill...

Re: Night + Bad Wx + PPL = Fatal Accident
RE C177. the Poor PDM was by the instructor/s and or examiner who "trained him", "recommended him" and or failed to send him back to square one which would have required re-writing the INRAT. Canada is one of the jurisdictions that require a re-write of the Instrument Written Exam in order to go for...

Re: Utralight Flying
Many years ago, I wanted to start an ultra-light flight school, be it with far higher standards than the norm, which can make it a dangerous business. I called Transport and it was explained that a Class IV needed 5 hours of UL time in order to be able to instruct on UL.s I found an UL flying school...

Cheating... I'll go along with Colonel Sanders' comments regarding night experience with some lighting failure. A PPL lawyer I know recently had a total electrical failure and ended up landing on a highway "at night". I would hate to think what would have happened if he had not had had the training ...

Wow, Nice to see so many constructive comments on this thread. I can't help but agree with the principle that we have an obligation to "over train" in order to meet a standard that we know is necessary regardless of the Flight Test Standards. When I never had an instrument rating, I got a ride with ...

Re: Student, instructor die in Vancouver plane crash
This is an "OLD" 2011 Crash and, the report makes good reading and appears to be well investigated without the usual problem of being political. The investigation really sounds impressive, used a simulator to find how fatal the error was. It dissects Mountain flying and in particular, Canyon Turns, ...

Re: Flying to Cuba
So far no one has answered the question as to what happens when a Canadian aircraft returns to the USA after visiting Cuba. I recall doing some research on such a project 18 years ago and it appeared to be that any aircraft insurance policy owned by a US based company would not cover anything in Cub...

ok, you are the refueler, dispatcher, engineer and you find out that a pilot got home last night in known icing conditions below minimums when he was out of IFR currency and night currency. The odds are that not a sole will say a word because he is an aircraft owner. Or, you notice that a fellow ins...

I have used the lot, Harv's Air aka http://www.pilottraining.ca, Colhane, Aerocourse and Sharper Edge. I've reviewed this course and their Instructor Ground School course, both of which were ON LINE. Edited I'd say you can use all 4 sources and it will not cover all the questions you will get 100%.....

I'd say it is most likely to be grounding, it's not jinxed, it's RF floating around, is it possible that the instruments and more likely, the radios are not not grounded internally or externally correctly? Did you try any of the instruments in an RF field? Do they behave like FS meters? Putting toro...

Dr. Barry Stratton was loved and respected, his passenger Jacques Domey was also well known although I'd never met or heard of him before the crash. So, What would Barry want us to say now? I would hope some honesty. Doctors are professionals in their area and its very easy for such highly educated ...

I noticed that my post was removed? Why? The Fact is, the pilot had a long criminal record, he was recently charged with very serious offences and very obviously could not enter the USA legally. http://blogs.windsorstar.com/2012/02/02/windsor-men-among-accused-in-massive-child-porn-bust/ The Windsor...

There is no general rule about how long a MC holder should be grounded after receiving a general anesthetic. It depends on the type of surgery, premedication, and the anesthetic agent. Physicians should be aware that the effect of some anesthetics may take days to wear off, and caution is recommende...

Re: What's your hearing worth?
The new noise Cancelling headsets "Can" work in "some" "situations". However, a regular David Clark headset without noise cancelling drops the noise by a significant amount. If we are in a very high noise aircraft, the solution is a combination of ear plugs and a regular headset. With the volume up ...

As usual the Colonel has some great advice. Cornwall has had this reputation for a very long time. I'm looking forward to doing a "renewal" them, be it that my my rating expired well before the Garmin 430 came out in 1998. I've found the Garmin software simulator to be a great learning tool. And doi...

Re: How to choose a flight Instructor ? Experienced or A roo
Most new instructors have a low probability of any genuine desire to instruct. It generally breeds a resentful bitter instructor who can't wait to take that multi-ifr job with next to no real experience. If he or she gets to be a Class One instructor they too can pass on the same negative attitudes ...

Re: Going to fly/work in Austrailia?
Your "instrument rating" is useless in Australia. It will require, the written exam which is a hell of lot easier than Inrat. It will require "an initial ride", expect all the approaches, a hold and several hours unless, you get a "good location" where it can be done. Far north Queensland - Call BOB...

A 65-75% result on practice exams would indicate to me that you have not studied the material, don't know the material and have taken the practice exams too soon. Now that you know or think you know the questions, It's more a matter of understanding the material rather than memorizing for an exam an...
