Re: History and airplane fatalities on Kagianagami Lake, Ont
Dear Mr. Lavoie, I got an email from Bobo telling me about your posting on Aviation Canada. Before I get into the "meaning" that I have for Lake Kagianagami, I thought that you might find it interesting that according to Jeff Ball, B.A., B.Ed., M.Sc., Geographic Names Specialist with the Ontario Min...

Re: Advise on searching for submerged plane wreckage
Hello Everyone, I just wants to take a minute to say thanks to both "Phlyer" and "Instructor_Mike for their posts. While I have no proof either way, I'm assuming that the engine was left with the rest of the wreckage, so Phlyer's post was a Godsend. I never even thought of the engine. Thanks again P...

Re: Advise on searching for submerged plane wreckage
Hello Again Everyone, I just thought that I would answer the questions in the more recent posts, plus say thanks for the ongoing advise. For now , all I will say about where the lake and crash site are is what was in my original post – in Northern Ontario, and the only way to get there is to fly in....

Re: Advise on searching for submerged plane wreckage
Hello Again Everyone, I just wanted to answer the questions that "lownslow" asked. • I am not sure if the bottom of the lake is hard or soft. • The idea of down rigger is worth looking into. Thanks. • If I find the wreckage, all I want is a photo to prove that it's there. I have no plans for disturb...

Advise on searching for submerged plane wreckage
Hello Everyone, Next summer, I am returning to northern Ontario to look for the wreckage of a Junkers 33fi airplane that crashed into the ice on a lake and caught fire in March of 1932. In the spring what was left of the wreckage – including a full tail section – sank in what I believe is in less th...

Re: Looking for photo of Godfrey Webster Dean
Hello Hilary Soper, To say that I was excited about reading your post would be an understatement. Your great uncle was quite the pilot indeed and searching for any information – but especially photos – for him has been quite the challenge. I would like to communicate with you by email if that's OK. ...

Re: Photo: Not much to go on, but any help would be apprecia
Hello Again Everyone, I've been able to check out all the recommendations that were posted above, but so far, no one has been able to determine where the photo was taken. However, after checking the list of Laurentian Airways staff, I found out that Merv Langille flew for them in the early 1970s. So...

Photo: Not much to go on, but any help would be appreciated
Hello Everyone. I've attached a photo of an otter that was being flown by Merv Langille back in the 1960-80s? I believe the paint colours were that of Laurentian Airways. I know that's not a lot of information, and there are no real identifying marks in the photo, except for a rather "rustic" dock. ...

Re: Help with identifying where photo was taken
Hello Again Everyone, A number of people on the AVCANADA forum believe that the photo that I posted was "backwards" or flipped. With this in mind, I have now posted the same photo after I flipped it in Photo Shop. Hopefully, this will make it easier to determine where the photo was originally taken....

Looking for photo of Godfrey Webster Dean
Hello Everyone, As part of my research on airplane crashes on Kagianagami Lake in northern Ontario, I cam across the fact that Godfrey Webster Dean was killed when the Junkers 33fi crashed on March 12, 1932 near the Hudson Bay Trading Post on the lake. Dean was also the first pilot to fly a "loop to...

Thank you to "culver 10", "Grimey" and "Rank 10".
The more I look at their posts, the more I believe that they are correct. It is Kapuskasing.
Thanks again everyone. And "culver 10", you might want to change your name to "Eagle Eye".

Help with identifying where photo was taken
Hello Again Everyone, Attached is a photo of the late Merv Langille standing in front Otter CF-GBX. I'm hoping someone can identify where the photo was taken by remembering the red and white building in the background. And while this may seem like a recording, "Thank you for all your help." Bill Tho...

Help with identifying plane and where photo was taken
Hello Everyone, My apologies. I thought I had attached the photos. On the bright side, I received two more today and I believe that one of the photos has more clues as to what type of plane and where the photo was taken. On one of the photos it has the wording "ailes du nord" and I believe that the ...

Help with identifying plane and where photo was taken
Hello Everyone, I believe that this plane is called a Dornier 280 and that it was first built in in Germany in 1959. Having said that, I am no expert on planes and I am very much open to other opinions. The pilot's name is Merv Langille, who was originally from Nova Scotia. He died in a plane crash ...

Otter (Twotter) C-FGQK, information on where and when
Hello Everyone, I'm back again with a request for information on the attached photos of an Otter (Twotter) C-FGQK. The letters on the side of the plane read SURVAIR. I am having no luck finding information under either C-FGQK or SURVAIR. I know that the plane was "probably" being flown by the late M...

Hello Everyone, Thanks for the additional information. The more I talk to the "senior statement" of bush pilots, the more I'm impressed. Talk about a tough bunch of fellas. God. Hopefully, when I put the finishing touches on one of my plane crash stories on Kagianagami Lake, I will be able to tell y...

Re:UPDATE on Merv Langelle dying in plane crash in Africa
Hello Everyone, I now have the rest of the story on pilot Merv Langille and I can thank “Bobo” for the clue to solving it. As I was to find in doing research, if you don’t have the correct spelling of an event or name, you quite often end up going down the wrong trail or end up on the wrong airstrip...

Re: What can the letters CF-APP on plane tell me about the a
Hello Everyone, I just want to thank “Bobo”, “SherpaT”, and “Oldtimer” for all their help with my inquiry. It was very much appreciated. With the help of the three, I was able to find out that the Otter was piloted by Merv Langille of Nova Scotia. According to his family, he got out of the aircraft ...

Hello Everyone, If any of you have had any experience with the Library and Archives Canada and their information on plane crashes, I would appreciate your help. What can the letters CF-APP on plane tell me about the aircr
Helle Everyone, I thought that I had posted this before, but it doesn't appear that I have. Does anyone know what kind of aircraft it may be, and wha...

Finding a wreck that's been submerged for 80 years
Hello Everyone, I've been researching a number of plane crashes in northern Ontario, Canada and I am wondering if anyone could help me by answering the following questions. 1. If a Junkers W.33fi was submerged in fresh water lake for 80 years, would the metal be totally corroded? 2. What about any p...

Information on Merv Langelle dying in plane crash in Africa
Hello Everyone, I am looking for information on the death of Canadian Pilot Merv Langelle. I know that Langelle used to fly in northern Ontario for Superior Airways back in the 1960 and maybe the 70s, but I heard that he was killed in a plane crash in Africa, but I am not sure of the year. If anyone...

Thompson, the operating manager of the Canadian Airways Limited In the letter, Thompson writes about the crash on the Kag. "Mr. Bates was watching...
