Re: The Air Canada OTS thread

I heard a lot of Jazz PMA guys have been deferring and AC is hurting to fill positions now rather than in 6-12 months. Good luck to all you OTS guys.

Friedrichshafen, now there is a city I really like. Spent a lot of time there a few years ago along with Lindau. Very jealous of getting to be there for that event.

Re: PPC Bonds

you shouldn't have to pay a bond (promissory note) out anyways, since they legally aren't worth the paper they're written on. hence why I presume companies have started taking loans out in the pilots names.

Re: Perimeter aviation vs transwest air? Help

Something else to consider, if you can't take the time to do a long trip. Choose a region, fly there and rent a car. Spend a week driving around and dropping in at all the operators in that area. I met a guy who came into our office a few months ago who did just that. Flew into Winnipeg, rented a c...

Have yet to see anyone hired without an A and close to 2k in the books with great references. My class was full of awesome guys. Except me of course  A few people I know hired in the last 6 months with under 1500 but A's written and mins other than total time for the ATPL completed. Forme...

Re: Perimeter aviation vs transwest air? Help

You can go get yourself into a Navajo right seat or be a diver driver etc. There's flying jobs out there for 200hr pilots you just have to go find them. A year ago I did just this. After six weeks found myself a right seat Ho job with a great company, and a year later I'm Captain and have over 1000...

Re: Small note in CFS gets overlooked

Every single time building student should at least get 25 hours night X-country, for their eventual ATPL. Yup. Matter of fact, try to do almost all your X-country time in the dark till you have enough for that ATPL. You'll thank us for this advice later. Illya I wish I listened to this advice when ...

Search for all the threads on here. Study the questions all the people (myself included) posted and you'll pass no problem. Brush up on your IFR a bit but overall it's a really easy exam.

Re: Question about a strange floatplane experience

I've seen float planes warmed up on the beaching gear before without anyone in the plane. It's off the ground, it's not going anywhere. Is it legal? Grey area... but I'd never consider putting the aircraft into the water with no one in the plane.

Re: Getting older, does life/work experience count for anyth

Yes absolutely. I know having the experience I had outside of aviation helped my cause when I was hired for my first flying job. Figure out how you can explain how your experience can relate to flying. A big one is any type of customer service experience. The mechanical background you have will be v...

PPL, I forced my precautionary too much. Didn't take my time... remember that everything is on your pace. Don't feel rushed. Also the diversion, felt a bit rushed again but that was also like I said before because of my own inexperience and trying to get it done too quickly. CPL, aced everything exc...

What North Shore said, Additionally from what I understand it's a lot easier to find a place to live off site in Steinbach. It's a fairly small town with a lot of families who have been known to take on boarders (renting but live in with the fam). If you looked I'm sure you could find something. Liv...

Re: Entry Level Float Pilot

Lots of people saying this is fine, but neglecting the fact pointed out by the OP that it is way below minimum wage, and therefore illegal. Why, exactly, is it ok to use pilots as slave labour? There's lots of righteous indignation here when pilots accept underpaid positions, or pay to fly, but you...

Re: Entry Level Float Pilot

Slate Falls has a very good rep for getting dock hands into flying positions quickly. If you can get your foot in the door there it will lead to a lot of flying when you get flight line. I'm not an advocate for dock/ramp jobs but if you float flying is what you want SFA is a good place to be. I know...

My mistake. I was under the assumption they did float ratings in Kenora or something?
