Poetry and accusations, legal quotes from the states. Why not put that over active mind of yours to good use and help instead of hinder?

How many have been fired since alpa showed up? How many pre alpa? If your going to make a statement like that back it.

Re: Gregg Saretsky is the modern Frank Lorenzo

Sounds like it was really party town. I wonder what the impact was on crew's personal lives though. I can't imagine this system was good for a healthy family life at home. Depends on the person. I've had lots of fun layovers and never once crossed any lines. I miss the days of non crew split crews ...

Re: To sum things up

JS, do you think swoop would have shown up if we voted down alpa? I do, it may have taken an extra year or so but this isn't just a knee jet reaction to certification. It's business, and we're run by businessmen who never got our culture. You have zero basis to blame alpa for this, where's your proof?

Well under that train of thought the same outsourcing could be applied to doctors, lawyers etc. I guess it's a good thing my wife is getting her RPN course, I could be living the high life in a few years. I'm so glad there are those within our ranks are doing all they can to better the profession. A...

Re: Is this a good reason for a high speed RTO?

The cpts emergency authority trumps all, but the correct answer is your not really supposed to reject. It's nothing more then a good discussion piece, but according to boeing you continue. Now say you reject and the overwing pax start they're own evacuation and someone got hurt (this happened at Jaz...

Lol no tail between my legs here!

GS isn't to blame for not having a workable agreement giving access to the Swoop flight deck. That's on everyone who voted ALPA in.
chicken or the egg comment here. I didn't want a union, but I, like a lot of us felt we had no choice. So here we are.

Re: 'shortage of pilots'or not??

The shortage is only starting and will get much worse before it gets better. With retirements, expansion domestically and over seas, reduced pilots doing initial training and continuing, to ATPL its the perfect storm to be a pilot right now, and will for some time. How long is anyones guess but year...

I second the thought if this had if happened anywhere other the SFO, this wouldn't be news. Anyone who hadn't accidentally flipped a radio (or forgot to) isn't being honest. The red light... Been a long time since looking for one. Can't comment. It's just poor timing (go around instructed after land...

Since starting flying in 1995, there hasn't been jobs this plentiful. The pilot shortage I've been hearing about for 20+ years IS here. Enjoy. My only advise is don't just focus on the big, shinny metal. evaluate what you want, the lifestyle you want to live and target those jobs. its a great time t...

Re: Meet Swoop - WestJet's ultra-low-cost carrier has a name, a home and a purpose

Jimmy2, none of the pilots I'm flying with have any interest in doing the same job for less pay, Faster upgrade or no. Sure, it might save on employee costs, but whats it cost to train a 737 pilot? 30K? If I were management i'd be seriously concerned about setting up a Air Canada training ground cau...

Re: Ryanair screws up pilot leave requirements, and cancels hundreds of flights

I just listened to cbc radio and there was a former Ryan air pilot stating this isn't about mis planning vacation but a pilot shortage, 700 leaving in the last few month. Crappy conditions due to no real CBA being the main reason. Interesting times ahead.

There is no "right" or "wrong" way, there is right or wrong attitudes.
Speaking of, coming to work with a positive attitude and a mindset you're there to learn something goes a long way, regardless of what seat your in, or how many hours you have logged.

Crazyaviator, this is true, it doesn't behoove anyone to pull a "Harrison" (TM). that said none of us were in that flight deck, and honestly if anyone on here says they never made a mistake, I'll point out a lier. Sure it sounds dramatic, 100' verticle, but who's to say they didn't do a slow methodi...

Re: AC Lining Up with a Taxiway SFO...?

This may or may not be applicable in this case but we all need to be conscience of the human error of expectation. You expect to see somthing and your brain will take what you see and mold it to fit your plan. This was a close call, they did the correct thing and went around, landed without incident...

So with these fast upgrades, whats the new wages look like? What would a junior Dash skipper be making annually? Is Jazz a viable career option like it once was? Not for me personally, just striking up a conversation.

An unfortunate series of events lead this experienced crew to make this mistake. Its not one single thing, too east to say they screwed up. I hope we can all take something away from this and not let it happen to us.

Re: Sensitive ears: can I still become a pilot?

Go see an ENT, you may need tubes. Carry a bottle of dristan in your flight bag, to help open things up. You'll learn soon enough when you start doing high rate of descent maneuvers if your ears can handle it. Keep in mind, if you can handle that, airline flying is easy as the cabin changes at 500 f...

Sure I will. It's always been overpriced pilots that bankrupt airlines, never incompetent management. You just keep on giving back until it feels good. Maybe if you get right back to minimum wage, you can keep working forever at the ULCC. Blaming the company and its management has been union mantra...
