Re: Which heading for an emergency letdown

Why 090 or 270? Because in at least south west BC, your panic will be short lived.

Re: Best bank angle for a engine failure turnback

Let’s put a firm collective boot through the concept that if you’re flying circuits you have to - or even should - climb to 500’ agl or any other fixed and immutable height before turning crosswind. True for PPL ? It seems for commercial multicrew operations TC prefers: https://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civ...

Re: Forced Landing Choices -- Engine failure.

Some people recommend leaving the gear down if crash landing in rough terrain or trees, as it will absorb some of the energy. It could however cause you to flip, or might rip out the fuel tanks. http://flighttraining.aopa.org/magazine/1998/March/199803_Handling_InFlight_Emergencies_Part_5.html Did ...

Re: Forced Landing Choices -- Engine failure.

Creston, Very interesting. Thoughts on open field -- leaving gear up? In scenario 1 still see little choice to the water, but rescue should be nearby -- 44% flipped over in open fields, as the stats showed. Soft, alfalfa, corn, ruts etc. Gear up will most likely prevent a flip-over, but you transfe...

Re: Forced Landing Choices -- Engine failure.

Statistics British data for light GA, controlled ditching, open ocean. 88% people escaped the crash with no or minor injuries, but 50% of these crash survivors died due to exposure. Bigger commercial aircraft: mostly deadly due to impact energy/speed and remoteness from timely rescue.   Options for ...

Re: Spiral Dive

Throttle back,
Push/unload wings, (roll rate quicker with wings unloaded)
Roll wings level,
Ease out of the dive.

Re: Recovery from inadvertent inverted flight?

Rick Stowell's upset recovery mantra. Power, Push and Roll. ex Base to final: Firewall power, push and roll. ex Cruise power flight: pull power, push and roll. Push keeps the nose up, unloads the wings and increases the roll rate or something like that. Citabria: 80 mph, power off, Spilt S: 600 feet...

CS
Thanks for the feedback.
What do you think about the second question asked.
Can a commercial pilot (with no flight instructor rating) endorse the rating?
Sincerely

Endorsement using a friend's plane for the training.

How do you fellows interpret the regulation? A. Can I use a friend of mine's aircraft to get an endorsement? See 406.03 (2)b.(iii) and B. Can a commercial pilot (with no flight instructor rating) endorse the rating? I got one interpretation of the regs from a flight school, but would like to hear wh...

Re: Good flight schools

I used to rent from them. Guy made me do a 1.5 hour check out with 6+ circuits, forced approaches, stalls, steep turns, etc. to show I could fly a 152. Meanwhile, across the street, where I eventually went when I heard about the no-bs policy, I got a 0.5 hour checkout with 3 circuits. It is because...

Harv's Air in Steinbach, Manitoba. For my PPL, they made me do departure stalls(full power); level stalls till you drop a wing (not just release back pressure at the earliest sign of buffet or stall horn); spins to both sides; have me land on grass; short final has a high tension power line to nego...
