Re: Paradrop pilot's salary

Master off... ...for the record I have 11 jumps and am very safety conscious. Scuba diving, sky diving, base jumping, bungee jumping and more are high risk in the sense that if the s$%^ hits the fan you will have a limited amount of resources/time to deal with the situation. The reality is that we a...

Re: Paradrop pilot's salary

I spoke with Joe at Skydive Toronto. If you pay for the course and are selected to be a pilot your first year is not a paid position. If you come back the second year you are paid. To reiterate, after you pay for your commercial license ($40-50k) you will pay another $1250 plus HST for a POTENTIAL p...

Re: Would you do it if you could start over?

If you love aviation then forget the trade. I have a trade and then got my CPL/float/multi-ifr. I was working for a great operator out of Yellowknife on the dock. The wife started bitching (now the ex) about the crap pay and I went to the diamond mines and made 5 times what I was making as a dockhan...

Auction of DeHaviland items Apr 20

I saw this ad and thought it might be of interest to collectors. Scroll half way down the list to see the sub-heading for Dehaviland. Online bidding can be done too. Good Luck!

Re: ISP in Northwest Territories

The ISP is the least of your worries. If you are moving north you will be gouged for everything except mosquito manure. Get used to it. When you return to where you started it will not even phase you to pay stupid amounts for everyday "needs".

Re: Insurance Minimums for Skydiving

Do other operators require 300 hours PIC for a regular paid pilot on a similar aircraft, (c182). I get the general position everyone has of the free-pilot concept. Let's talk about other skydive opportunities and their req's.

Re: Insurance Minimums for Skydiving

Thanks, and I get that part about buying your way in.
Any comments on the original question of a 300 pic minimum to fly for skydiving?
Thanks...

Re: Insurance Minimums for Skydiving

I was actually referring to the particular operation that offers an opportunity to buy your checkout and possibly get a non paying pilot job.

Insurance Minimums for Skydiving

I was speaking with a skydive operator and was informed that his insurance provider states a minimum of 300 PIC to fly for his operation. Is this typical across the industry without having to buy your type rating?

It is not an airplane, it is a fuel truck. I think it is a GM.

Re: Air Tindi Fatal TSB Report To Be Released March 20, 2013

As with any investigation the TSB does they will build their case. Indicating the Ft. Simpson to Yellowknife flight, the fuel issue and the over water portion establish a profile. I am sure many pilots have flown that exact route, only 100 feet higher, and have avoided the exposure of a TSB report.
