Re: WestJet pilots to fly Swoop aircraft
A national seniority system where you can carry your seniority from one airline to another and change jobs without severe financial repercussions would force companies to compete for talent and raise wages. Well, exactly. That's what we're trying to do. We started with Encore. Then you come along, ...

Re: How's morale with uncertainty of the one list?
As opposed to just attacking me personally, how about using your education to answer the points I have raised?

Re: How's morale with uncertainty of the one list?
Bede , I don't know how you sleep at night knowing you encouraged former WJE pilots already at WJ to vote in a system (ALPA) that resulted in those pilots (and their colleagues still at WJE) losing tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, and in some cases, millions of dollars in lost future earni...

Reasoned with? Bede, you haven't countered any of the points raised above! Failure to counter the issues I raised will simply result in an adverse inference: you recognize that I'm right. FYI, me pointing out why something can't happen isn't the same as me being responsible for the something not hap...

Re: How's morale with uncertainty of the one list?
DC-10 Driver, When you started at WJ, you surely knew all of the terms and conditions with respect to where you sat on the list. It's sad that now you are willing to through our Encore brothers under the bus to further your personal interests. When we insisted on wage parity with the Swoop start up...

Re: How's morale with uncertainty of the one list?
So you see, it's all there in black and white. There is no wiggle room. ALPA, for various reasons, cannot institute a replica of the WPDL. The policy that forbids it was issued by the Executive Board in 1956, and it is still present in the most recent Administrative Manual (Chapter 40) as of October...

Re: How's morale with uncertainty of the one list?
But as we know, the policy of the Executive Board passed in 1956 is that seniority must be based on DOH (non-merger) and seniority alone controls promotion (upgrade). From the latest ALPA Constitution and Bylaws (September 18, 2018), we see that the President of ALPA has a duty to uphold this policy...

Re: How's morale with uncertainty of the one list?
Certainly the founding members of the ALPA OC at WJ wanted WJ/WJE pilots to believe the WPDL could be replicated in an ALPA CBA:

Re: How's morale with uncertainty of the one list?
Here is the current and in-force version of the seniority policies from the ALPA Administrative Manual, Section 40. Compare these two pages (also attached as PDF to this post) to the seniority section from the 1967 ALPA Policy Manual posted by WeedPro above. They are identical. The policy has been i...

Re: How's morale with uncertainty of the one list?
Mr. North , I sympathise with your position and the others at WJE. Throughout the certification campaign, and indeed before, I tried to convince others of the danger to the WPDL in the event of certification by ALPA. I had read the ALPA Constitution and the policies of the ALPA Executive Board. I r...

Re: How's morale with uncertainty of the one list?
Bede, I'm not even a member of ALPA, and I certainly can't influence management, so how could I possibly influence the results of a union/management negotiation? The poster challenged me to comment, so I did. I only speak my lived truth and since getting sober, I don't know how to operate any other ...

Re: How's morale with uncertainty of the one list?
Hi Tacoma, I feel so very sad for you, and for others on the Q who believe that ALPA has this problem licked. If you take your thinking just a little bit further, you will see that the one list is a stale document that won't be updated past the last update in August. Once the statutory freeze is ove...

Re: SWOOP OTS Captains punted from left seat...
:goodman: While the recent victory is small, it is one nonetheless. Yes. Small it is. Prior to ALPA's election, all Swoop flying was to be done only by pilots on the (now on life-support) WestJet Pilot Department List, composed only of WJ and Encore pilots, with terms to be negotiated. So I guess o...

Re: SWOOP OTS Captains punted from left seat...
With this decision made, I see that Kaplan, in his ruling, refers to a creature known as the Westjet PIlot Seniority List . There is no such creature available in the last negotiated WJPA pilot agreement, nor have I been able to find such a creature available on any WJ internal resource. I'd like to...

Re: WestJet pilots to fly Swoop aircraft
Eric, that is advice one can only give as a result of having been there and got the T-shirt. I likely would have made the right decision, but I’m lucky in that the decision was made for me. I was trying to ignore the warning signs flagged by expats such as yourself, but there certainly were aspects ...

Re: WestJet pilots to fly Swoop aircraft
Well, the CAAC (Chinese TC) has a number of different regions, and apparently pilots have failed medicals in one region, but then passed in another. My problem is the black and white prohibition on the pre-operative limitation. So, I am looking to see if there is a way to appeal the decision and per...

Re: WestJet pilots to fly Swoop aircraft
You’re all stuck with me for as long as WJ will keep me around. I failed the CAAC medical. I had laser eye surgery 4 years ago and although I more than meet the standard now, the strength of the correction in one eye prior to the surgery exceeded the Chinese standard. See y’all out there on the line!

Re: WestJet pilots to fly Swoop aircraft
Well, the people trying to get on here know more about the working conditions they’ll have than the pilots bidding for a Swoop positions. The fact the bid in YHM for Swoop CA positions went so junior leads me to believe that not everyone is as confident as the ALPA fanboi club that the arbitrator is...

Re: WestJet pilots to fly Swoop aircraft
I should clarify, you’re not working 44 days straight lol. From what I understand from numerous pilots here, it’s a 4 on 2 off schedule while in country. There’s no red eyes, and no one is claiming fatigue here. I got through the written exam yesterday. It was hard, but doable with enough time and t...

Re: WestJet pilots to fly Swoop aircraft
Yup, it’s risky. And that will factor into my final decision. Obviously the younger a person is the better the overall health profile. But damn the city is nice. I’ve posted some photos on my FB page that are publicly available showing the beach area I visited yesterday with my fellow WJ applicant. ...
