This is from FlyerTalk and worth sharing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Lots of armchair captains and investors in our midst! Private Equity firms like Onex care about one thing only - making money. They make money by buying an asset as low as possible (the #...

Re: ONEX plans

Aeroplan? It's IPO was wildly successful and oversubscribed. So if AC decided to spin off Aeroplan again in 2 years, would you expect it to be wildly successful and over subscribed? Probably not. Once bitten, twice shy. I don't doubt that a very small minority benefited from the financial engineeri...

CHR is still pumping along with 6%+ yield and a long term deal... there have been dips sure, but YTD is up about 40%.

So 1 out of 3 have been successful.

Re: ONEX plans

I think Air Canada has ruined the appetite for an Encore IPO. Enough time had past to judge Robert Milton's "unlocking shareholder value" strategy. Jazz Once the initial contract was over, AC started Sky Regional to compete with Jazz and successfully lowered the CPA rate. This happened again with Ai...

Re: BETRAYAL!

WestJet intended for all NGs to be on Swoop's OC, a new narrow body jet at Encore and only MAX/787 at WestJet. That did not happen. Swoop is only a ULCC, with no integration with WestJet. The initial planning for Swoop in early 2017 always envisioned a completely separate operation from WestJet due...

The oral hearing with the arbitrator commences this Saturday and finishes Monday. The arbitrator has promised his award by Dec.31st. It will likely be sooner. Until then, no one knows. Pilots and management are in the same boat. Everyone is waiting.

Re: SWOOP OTS Captains punted from left seat...

I legitimately forget the precise details of the company's request to ALPA in order to discuss Swoop terms, was it that ALPA had to agree to not bring a common employer request to the CIRB? Plus to waive the right to strike. And there would be no discussion of terms, only what was offered. Further,...

Re: WestJet might as well rebrand itself as Canadian

Business people still won't fly WJ. I know I won't. That is unless they change their FA training to be more professional and less "jokey" along with the pilots PAs. Just cause there is a J class now means jack shot if no companies will fly with them. Too many people are long committed to the Aeropl...

Re: SWOOP OTS Captains punted from left seat...

Another point for Eyebrow.

As far as any WestJet pilot knows, not one Swoop OTS pilot has been denied a jumpseat. Likely this will never happen as the situation is being corrected. We are all WestJet pilots now.

Yet you boast you have denied two WS pilots a jumpseat.

Think about that.

Re: SWOOP OTS Captains punted from left seat...

On a larger scale this poses the question: Is piloting a profession like lawyers, doctors, or nurses whereby one is recognised for one's previous experience from one company to another; or is it a union-shop-job whereby one progresses based on one's seniority not necessarily merit? Don't bother clo...

Aerobud u said... “bringing the WestJet year 12 captain total compensation to $292K at 80 hours or $301K at the maximum 82.5 hours before overtime -“ That would be with no YOS, so a 12 year Captain could be in year 20 with the company. Yup, it’s risky. And that will factor into my final decision. Obviously the younger a person is the better the overall health profile. But damn the city is nice. Re: AC soars, WJ nosedives

Never ceases to amaze me how many pilots seem to believe they’re financial experts. Just because you’re a pilot, doesn’t mean you have any real clue about the financials of where you work or where other people work. Have your opinion, others will have theirs, life goes on. If pilots spent half as m...

Look after your employees, they will look after your customers, your customers will look after your stock price. A business model WJ followed with massive success until they decided they wanted to be AC from the 1990's. Antagonize your employees, who will take revenge upon you any way possible and ...

So after traveling 2000nm with 174 passengers, you stop short 100ft from your destination. You think it's better NOT to inform the passengers of the reason?

Thanks lol

Re: Summer Storms

No gust limits, just crosswind. You can add up to 25kts to VRef in gusty conditions. The 737NG has predictive wind shear. A wind shear aural alert will trigger a go around/recovery. The Tower doesn't make these decision. They'll only instruct a go around for insufficent spacing, disabled aircraft/ve...

I’m loathe to start another thread on CUPE so I’ll just append this gem here. Re: Well that didn’t take long for Swoop FA’s to unionize

Keeping them separate allows each entity to be sold or taken public in their own right in the future, amongst other things. Re: Well that didn’t take long for Swoop FA’s to unionize

I think many will understand the reasoning behind having Swoop as a seperate company but what is not acceptable was using another OC. You can have all the above commercial initiatives but WestJet 737s are flown by WestJet pilots. Now we have a mess of two seperate training systems, two SOPs and all ...
