Re: What should pilots do going forward?

What’s wrong with reduced blocks tied in with less days? The value of your work is still the same.

Having more pilots employed at 705 carriers reduces the supply at 704/703 thus preserving those wages. It also means more Captains keep their left seat and pay.

Re: RCAF reserve as a second job

I believe the program was called the “Skilled Pilot Entry Program” or something like that. It was listed in 1 CAD Orders - 747. No recruiter would know about it. It was a 1.5 page document and executed by the 402 Command team. The minimums were 500hrs and an assessment. The assessment would determin...

Re: A "NEW" One List?

The company sees opportunity in this crisis. Their bargaining positioning was on the lines of: 1. Gutting scope, larger Jets at Encore; 2. ESP removed until their discretion; 3. Compensation reductions; 4. Layoff pay concessions; 5. Recall out of seniority. That's grossly exaggerated. Thanks Bede f...

Re: A "NEW" One List?

Cloak, I believe Mainline and Encore and not comparable due to layoff pay provisions/EI top up in the mainline CA. Here’s some rough math/counting of the cost of a 75% EI top up on the 1000 June 1st layoffs. I roughly assumed an average FO rate of $105 and 4 YOS. June 1st layoff comprises of 460 CAs...

Re: A "NEW" One List?

The radio silence shows disrespect for the 700 pilots who will be laid-off by week's end, and the other 1000 who will follow, not only to fail to mitigate lay-offs but also to fail to transparently, timely and professionally communicate the facts. Much less would ordinarily cause a recall. Experien...

Re: WestJet Group Hiring Freeze

Thanks for that. My apologies, I was indirectly referring to Enerjet’s ambitions. Will anyone invest in them now? Is there a need for Swoop post Covid-19?

Re: WestJet Group Hiring Freeze

Thanks Realitychex,

If WestJet were to start up in Dec 2019 funded partly by a US airline tycoon, would they have lasted this crisis?

Will any Canadian investor want to back a new ULCC based in YYC in the future?

Re: Westjet Delta JV

No one at WestJet has dreams of taking flying away from Delta. The JV gives Delta a competitive response to the Air Canada/Rouge encroachment into the US, which hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Big US3. In the past 5 years, Air Canada added 30 or so more widebodies over the Atlantic. The US3 don’t like ...

Re: 2020 Hiring

Revamp? Doubt it. Probably same same without the potential stock volatility. I think the company will push hard against anything more than 5%. They are not issuing “free for them” stock anymore but cold hard cash they would rather keep. ????? No. Mr. Kaplan has stated to both parties that the arbit...

Re: 2020 Hiring

That is a weird post ^. You trying to sound like Yoda? A pilot must be one with the market force? Alot of your post explains details that are simply not true or not true yet I suppose. You've made huge leaps in what you think is going to happen and what has actually been stated. 30 tails to Swoop? ...

Re: 2020 Hiring

I understand your POV, but a couple of your statements are false. There is incentive- REIP $14,400/year for 2 years if you flow to Westjet. Also - you accrue senirorty on the list, not YOS, but senoeiry ahead of any OTS hires. If you work at Jazz those two incentives dont exist. Also- the union is ...

Re: 737 to 787 Upgrade Times

The choice was 12 year old A332s from Emirates or the much older Qantas 763s. Airbus was brokering the A332 deal that included induction assistance, which WestJet liked. Boeing countered with a deal where Boeing would buy the 767s and overhaul to Canadian standards. Boeing subcontracted the work to ...

Re: One List

There is a group of pilots who dislike ALPA, mainly due to AC/Regional seniority trouble of the 90s. This is understandable. Many in this group intend to raid ALPA with a lower cost, more agreeable union within 2 years. The main argument used against ALPA during the certification drive was that the ...

Re: One List

Hey Stratopaused, The culture people at WestJet have done a great job expressing the Why of our jobs which is reflected in your posts regarding Encore’s contribution. I sense the Encore group has morphed this to a popularized idea that mainline is reaping the rewards off Encore’s contribution. I off...

Re: One List

Not quite. I've been at Encore for a little over 2 years, and I'm still more than 220 spots down the Encore list alone. This is also irrelevant, because management has shutdown flow from Encore to mainline, with no timeline in place to reinstate flow. The reason these people got a mainline spot who...

Re: One List

So apparently, some of the junior Encore FO's who bid to Swoop when they first started up have now been awarded Mainline FO positions. In my opinion, that's brutal. The rest of us at Encore didn't bid to swoop because we wanted to support the mainline pilots by not bidding over to Swoop, and this i...

Re: 737 to 787 Upgrade Times

The initial MAX order was to be funded with debt and cash from operations. WestJet then announced they would receive 10 787s and reduce the MAX order by 15. WestJet told the analysts there will be no adjustments to future capital requirements despite the fleet plan change. In 2018, WestJet fell shor...

Re: 737 to 787 Upgrade Times

WestJet traded 15MAX options for 10 787 firm orders with no additional capital required, so likely less than 160 million. WestJet leverage the 767 fiasco for the discount. Care to share where you got that information?? I haven’t seen that disclosed anywhere. The last I saw was 10 firm and 10 option...

Re: 737 to 787 Upgrade Times

Guess I have an obvious question about 787 growth. Where is all the "untapped market" for all of these future arrivals? I mean Air Canada, and Transat (pre-merger) would have filled any "obvious" market vacancies that would generate good, steady income, no? Are they poorly positioned to do so in th...
