Re: Hiring Rumors...

I was being sarcastic although there was a bit of truth hidden in there. For those that applied to both places last time around, and were called first by Jazz, and then by AC. Those candidates got a pretty raw deal IMO. I guess timing is everything. Personally I don't really care as I'm already at A...

Re: Hiring Rumors...

I can't believe some people were turned down for being Jazz pilots just after being hired at Jazz last time around. Sounds like discrimination to me. Time to run to the CHRC.

Re: Jazz (Thomas Cook)

Jazz is not competing against Air Canada ... Thomas Cook is competing with Air Canada Vacations. We are just filling a contract for uplift .. not operating a tour company. Thomas Cook is the competitor .. I feel that point needs to be pressed. Yes, it's Thomas Cook's flying. Problem with AC is Jazz...

Re: Mandatory Retirement to be Eliminated in Parliament

I have nothing against formula pay. I would prefer a no discount formula to a status pay, however if age 60+ passes, then status pay will be the only way to go. unfortunately the losers here will be the widebody pilots who wish to retire at 60 as they will surely see wage reductions or freezes. Rock...

Re: Mandatory Retirement to be Eliminated in Parliament

I think he meant without penalty. Maybe the narrow body pilots can learn from this and present an argument to the CHRT that they are being discriminated upon based on the type of aircraft they fly. I mean after all we are subsidizing a differed compensation scheme, all the while enduring a 5-15% dis...

Re: Mandatory Retirement to be Eliminated in Parliament

Yes, we know you think that. And so do many of your colleagues. However the Canadian government and the CHRT don't agree with you. That fact simply has to sink into your head sooner or later. They do state that it is not discriminatory to force one to retire if that is the normal age of retirement....

Re: Mandatory Retirement to be Eliminated in Parliament

You guys that promote a strong work ethic should try the right seat of an Embraer for your last 5 years. And you`re gonna love the LGA turns. I personally feel 60+ pilots who wish to continue should do so at the bottom of the present day list but ahead of new hires who will be allowed to go to 65. I...

Re: Rumors of AC hiring soon, any truth?

You`re not fooling anyone you know. I read the documents. The court clearly states the fly past 60 group can be accommodated by changing the terms of employment at a certain age. That`s not forcing anyone to retire hence non discriminatory. You ought to be ashamed of yourself comparing your plight t...

Re: Rumors of AC hiring soon, any truth?

After listening to Brain Murry speak on the issue today, it's pretty clear you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Rocky or me? both? Rocky: You don`t need to tell me what you think is good for me. Lost in Saigon: I`m proposing viable solutions that everyone can live with to accommod...

Re: Rumors of AC hiring soon, any truth?

I have not done the math, nor do I really plan on actually having a pension when I retire at 60 (or 58). It will be gravy if I have one. For the record, I will not have a full pension at 60, nor would I have 35 years in at 65 for that matter. So for arguments sake, under my scenario, if one is hired...

Re: Rumors of AC hiring soon, any truth?

Fine! Status pay with rotating seniority. You won. In doing so you have proven yourself greedy by not accepting a compromise allowing you to stay while not hurting anyone. You will have gained nothing as the entire contract will be overhauled. and you will have burned a lot of people in the process....

Re: Rumors of AC hiring soon, any truth?

As for the contract...no collective agreement ever takes precedent over the law. How could it? I don`t think anyone has a problem with retiring past sixty. Where the problem lies is that the entire collective agreement is based on a differed compensation system where one maxes out their gains at th...

Re: French vs English

But what, we should wait till a 172 hits a dash, then decide to change the rules.

TCAS is a good backup in case of a total and complete communications breakdown. If you follow it, it will save you.

They're speaking french on their radios over there.

Re: French vs English

Interesting scenario which could come up.... Two aircraft approach uncontrolled airport, one form the east the other from the west, winds are calm. One pilot calls the ATF in French, the other in English. Both decide to enter straight in downwind left to opposite ends of the runway from their persp...

Re: French vs English

People do you really have any clue.... yes French being spoken in the air is dangerous. Can you back that up? They do speak english on the radio in central and south america, and by the way, also in the cockpit. These are countries that have nothing to do with english, they are strickly other langu...

Re: French spoken in the air, is it just me or is this unsafe?

I think it would be a huge safety issue NOT to allow french to be spoken in quebec airspace. Jean-Guy private pilot will just turn his transponder off and say Tabarnak! Mange d'la marde esti d'ATC! How safe will you feel now with a bunch of targets invisible to your TCAS around you just because they...

Ya! I say we just fly in the complete opposite direction for a day. Supposed to go to Calgary? drop them off in Halifax instead. Could you imagine the chaos. I think the contract would be fixed to everyones satisfaction by 9am.
...or we can just go to arbitration... :butthead:

Re: Air Canada's unions ready to 'Walk the Line in '09'

We are a private company but also provide an essential service. There is no other airline in Canada that can take over the service magnitude AC provides. The obvious result would be a big hit on the economy within a matter of days. The government will have to let it go a few days but not much more....

It's to further degrade your working conditions so that the corporate mafia can get cheap pilots. Literally a dime a dozen.
