Re: Well, well... Watch these two pros!
Wow! Single pilot IFR in the Bush! Incredible. I remember doing that a decade ago too. If you read my post again, I simply stated that as a pilot for many airlines around the world, if you are fully configured by 1500 feet, you are not following SOP’s. It is too early. I’m happy for you your company...

Re: Well, well... Watch these two pros!
Certainly unprofessional for the FO to be filming. Also, maybe the other camera was a jumpseater? (I hope). As for stable at 1500 feet? You will be on the shit list at many airlines around the world if you are dropping the gear before 1500 feet. Just because your airline says it’s too dangerous for ...

Honest question as I don’t know if things have changed there.

Re: Sunwing hires Swoop
I would venture a guess that SW is still expanding, short on airplanes due to the winter program not including the Max, and went to the lowest bidder. Too bad it’s to a B scale company.

Re: Advice for a 30 year old
I dropped out of University at 27 (medical field as well). I started from scratch in aviation and am now left seat on a narrow body making well over 6 figures 10 years later. It is definitely doable and a degree is definitely not required. Just hard work, commitment, a flexible lifestyle and a good ...

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
I was hired at SWG 5 years ago with 3600 hours, no jet, no 705, no degree and not bilingual. If you have a good attitude and 1 or 2 solid references you stand a good shot at getting on. Many of my friends with similar experience have gotten on since.

Re: Air Canada Rouge EGPWS warning at Huatulco
I have flown into Huatulco many times. Once as a brand new FO my Captain interpreted exactly this clearance in exactly the same way while we were IMC. I quickly corrected them and we landed without incident (not saying I am a super pilot, just illustrating how easily and quickly the clearance can be...

Re: Swoop pilot hiring.
Not sure how comparable it is to Sunwing. All internal upgrades at Sunwing start at year 2 Captain pay which is 117$ per hour and a 1000 hour per year salary. Also 1.5 X pay over 90 hours per month and double time over 100 hours or on a gdo. Sunwing Captain in their first year 117 x 1000 =$117000 Sw...

Re: WestJet almost puts one in the drink
Long Story short these guys fucked it up, realized it and put the airplane back into the proper flight path. It wasn't pretty, it is not where anybody wants to be, but bottom line they didn't try to salvage it, they went around and did it properly. Unfortunately for them there are countless lenses c...

Quite a classy statement. I am sure to say something like that, you must know the majority of the 385 Canadian pilots who work at Sunwing.pilotguy2017 wrote:It's a total crock but it doesn't surprise me. Seems to be a special kind of pilot that Sunwing tends to hire or sponsor.

Re: MRU Hits Fence
I would hardly call hitting a fence and then putting it down in the rhubarb a good job, unless they had a catastrophic failure at the end of the runway (maybe they did). We have all fucked up, most of us have gotten lucky. I'll reserve my opinion until the results of the investigation come out.

As I can't resist, Airtransat clearly hires both anglophones and francophones. Do they prefer people who can speak French? Of course! Is that unfair from a company based in Quebec with a largely francophone workforce? I hardly think so.

5 months after I completed my 7 hour float rating, TC requested a copy of my log book as well as a copy of the journey log from the float operator. All was well, but you never know when they will come after you for that all important paperwork!

Re: Any Type rated 737 Canadian pilots still out there ?
So far, Air Transat has never made use of Foreign Pilots, nor has it ever made use of Foreign Wet-Leases unless it was for a short term emergency (AOG etc). In general I am a supporter of Gilles, but is this statement accurate? Has Air Transat never made use (or money) off a foreign pilot? I am not...

Re: Foreign Workers in Canada
Obviously Gilles isn't responsible for Transat taking on the four wet lease's, the market is. He has made progress for all Canadian pilots and hopefully the ball continues to roll. IMHO the only answer is 100% reciprocity, no exceptions. Whether you are with Sunwing, Transat or whomever, Gilles has ...

Re: MH370 possibly found!
Looks promising.
I am assuming it floated ashore. Would it actually help that much in finding the actual wreck or just add a small piece to the puzzle? It's at least a step in the right direction. Hopefully more to come.
