Re: 50 Seat Q400

Updating would probably including a lot of weight savings (ie. more composites inside and out, ditching the APU=weight, glass cockpit). Keep the galley aft and move the shitter to the back as well, Dash's have always been nose heavy... Lots can be done upgrade a proven frame...as mentioned before, t...

Re: 50 Seat Q400

PW 150s might be a bit much on the 300s frame...could see them going with a version of the PW 127s with 6 bladed props like the newer ATRs use and a prop brake for a hotel mode thus negating the need for an APU....definitely lots of modernization and upgrade potential if they ever do go ahead with a...

Re: August Equip Bid

There are many variables, but does anyone have a somewhat accurate "guesstimate" for how many AC will take from Jazz going into 2020 and beyond ??

I get the delayed Jazz bid will detail more but I am curious to what everyone thinks will happen...

Would DeHavilland Canada restart Dash 8 300 production?

Interesting comments towards the end of the article from De Havilland Canada Chief Operating Officer Todd Young about interest in a 50 seater again.

The equipment bid will be delayed until Sept or possibly later (officially)
Is the delay due to the Max issues at AC or with the Georgian pilots coming over or the economy ??? Whats the latest if anybody knows...

Re: August Equip Bid

Any Jazz types out there got an update/info on the August bid ?? Hasn't come out yet, usually comes out Aug 15th (or close to it) I expect to see it Aug 15 or 16th. Once it comes out, would appreciate it, if you guys could share the info/opinions/rumours regarding hiring and bases going into 2020....

A little "birdie" mentioned to me that 5T is very short of crews on the Dash 8 and many cpt/cpt pairings happening lately.

Anyone from Jazz care to make an educated guess as to what the August bid will bring for the fall of 2019 into spring 2020 ?

Most recent junior Q400 position in YVR went to a pilot with 1 year seniority (effective Dec 1, 2019). (just for a reference for those wanting YVR)
How long for the average upgrade at all bases these days ?

Problem with retention bonuses is that they can be ended very quickly (temporary measure), whereas its a lot more difficult to take back raises, once implemented.

Re: Canadian/First Air Merger

Freight contracts (groceries) have always been the bread and butter for arctic operators...passengers are the gravy, and as was mentioned above, if the freight revenue disappears, people hauling alone won't sustain either company.

So the pilots agree to a long term contract and then Chorus conveniently reduces this "benefit" shortly thereafter ?

Re: Ethiopian Airlines: 'No survivors' on crashed Boeing 737 max

The worldwide herd mentality to shutting down 737 Max operations till the cause is found, seems to have momentum building .....Marc Garneau's comments from yesterday seem industry generated...if 18 dead Canadians aren't enough to make him act...how many would ? He has 0 credibility.
