I believe you will need a FAA license to fly PIC in a N registered aircraft.
The conversion process is easy should you want to get your PPL FAA license. No flight or written test required.

Airspeed 250, Don't try and parallel Asiana 214 with the First Air 737 CFIT. It's offensive. I want to puke. JJJ jjj, sorry, I was not trying to imply disrespect to either crew. I fly a cessna around so I should probably stay out of this thread. My one and only point, and poorly made, is high time ...

Re: WestJet Mainline/Encore Hiring pool
That's why when the doo doo hits the fan with automation, crews are thundering in at places like San Francisco because the basic skills of flying hands and feet and navigation are becoming less and less proficient. Does Canada want to follow that track? Just food for thought. If you are referring t...

Besides first year pay the salaries at Spirit don't seem too shabby, but I don't know nearly enough about the ULC environment. All I keep hearing is that it's bad, poor wages, etc. Just interesting that Spirit is a ULC and paying relatively good wages... :?: I don't think people like flying on them...

A shitty website, a few paid off chrony execs , and some meaningless 737 options (the options which can probably be sold for a profit if need be) is a cheap way to scare Westjetters into labour stability. He has probably been in the business longer than you have. https://www.linkedin.com/pub/dave-s...

Re: When do lower fuel prices = lower ticket prices?
With our resource based Canadian dollar dropping like a rock, aircraft aquisition prices in US dollars skyrocket, as do US Nav fees, US aircraft handling, US airline employee costs, among many others. This is offset somewhat by lower fuel prices for a relatively small "portion" of unhedged fuel. Mo...

Cabin crew screaming BRACE? After an engine failure? Popping chutes with no direction from the cockpit? Can you say, more training is needed here. Knew ha could. Illya Where did you get "with no direction from the cockpit" from? The pilots tell ATC they are going to evac, just after they landed.

Re: NAV Can online tests
I have done the online test twice, and each time finished around 26 questions. Both got the green light after, but the first time I applied, I ended up waiting a year and my application expired. The second time, I did the online exam in April, and got the call for the in-person testing session nearl...

We should start a thread with pilots names that "volunteer" instead of working. What about the 4000 unpaid "intern" positions in the city I live in? Recent university grads are in the same boat now. How much longer can people with no experience say NO to an unpaid position when there are thousands ...

To the south, regionals have been parking planes because they can't get crew at the less-than-minimum wages that they are offering. Oddly, the regional airline management seems content with that. Republic Air is running a 2% profit margin, after tax, and that's with the low wages and decent economy.

The 10% raise in my would be much less than 34M for pilots and FA. It is light calculation. (Raise a 21k copilot of 10% = 2.1k jeeze... Still so ridiculous) I used 10% across the board to keep this analysis simple. Even at 10%, a captain goes from 60k to 66k... not exactly a lifestyle jump after ta...

So you don't belive in changing the status quo? I never said I don't want the industry to improve. My comment was simply that the terrible conditions in the US regionals have existed for a long time. I don't know how you squeeze the employer though. Where do the funds come from to pay better wages?...

Re: College of pilots
I keep saying ... Pilots need a union - not a college, or university, or Master's degrees in "life experience". The mission of the union would be to stop pilots from undercutting each other. No "work for free". No "Left seat on an RJ for $50k". Sorry, but if I'm happy flying for 35K, why the hell w...

I think pilot training should become a graduation training like if you study in a college to become graduate. Viceversa nowdays is a driving school training. Yes, but when someone suggests having a degree (almost every professional college requires significant classroom education), there is resista...

If pilots would stop working for table scraps, half the issues everyone rants about would go away. After spending a few days out on the water on my sailboat, and a weekender at the MOA rally in MSP, it reminds me of why I care less and less about what happens to all the whiners in the aviation indu...

mayday should be saved for when you are really not convinced you will survive the next 10 mins. At AC and WJ level an Inflight shutdown is not something there should be any concern over the ultimate outcome. The aircraft, crew, procedures should be such that there should be no need for immediate he...

Thank you for the informative post. I've had many instructors tell me that strobes are useless in the daytime - leave them off. Sure, maybe, but every bit helps. Even worse, coming from almost every instructor I've had, including the CFI, is to not use the landing light during the daytime when in th...

For Air Law, get the CPL exam guide from TC, it will tell you exactly which CARS and other Air Law topics are possibly on the exam. Then simply read the CARs in question straight from TC, and other material from the AIM. I found the CARs are very straight forward to understand. You do not need a stu...

College of pilots again is the way to go. Right now if you are a pilot offered a commuter job, an instructor job ......

What is the future for people starting out as commercial pilots? As someone who is still thinking of changing careers, the outlook is a bit bleak. Two of the issues, which need to be discussed at the flight schools are: 1. permanent Temporary Foreign Workers taking more and more positions in the fut...
