Re: Is part-time work as an ATC an impossibility?

It's not completely off the table some day in the future, but for now, no.

I don't think the company has any desire to put all the resources required into training an employee, and only getting half an employee. They can't catch up to required staffing as it is.

Yes, having to take a test, pay a fee, and carry a card is exactly the same as being coerced into injecting a substance one does not want to inject.

The case fatality rate is 1.8%. The infection fatality rate is significantly lower, and heavily skewed towards older populations. You can't be serious...having an actual discussion with actual facts? Ok then... The problem with studies of IFR is that they are mostly estimates. Canada has pretty goo...

The AZ vaccine *is* a conventional one.
Not really, it's a viral vector vaccine. As far as I can tell this vaccine technology has only been used previously for 2 ebola vaccines, which were not widely distributed.

Re: Are you vaccinated?

Well you might want to check your facts there. In Canada the current fatality rate is 1.8%. I guess some pilots are happy with a 1.8% chance of having a fatal crash on each flight too. Each to their own. The case fatality rate is 1.8%. The infection fatality rate is significantly lower, and heavily...

When being cleared to land give the pilot the full runway length unless the controller gives additional instructions, such as land short if able, or something else, What would happen if your brakes failed on landing and the controller positioned an aircraft for take off midway down the runway, Land...

It's sad that this is a poll.

Silencing dissenting opinions may feel good in the short term, but it invariably leads to tyranny.

Re: Tower closure predictions?

While I agree the airport layout of YHM and its traffic mix is not conducive to FSS only service (I think it's high time they build a full length parallel taxiway), there are ways to mitigate the loss of ATC service, while keeping things moving safely. I'm sure it could be mitigated and made genera...

Re: Tower closure predictions?

Why isn't Hamilton (YHM) on the LOS list? They haven't had over 40,000 movements since 2010, and those movements are spread over a 24 hour period (YHM is open 24 hours). Sudbury (YSB) has just as many movements, but the vast majority are during 0600-2200, so there's just as many movements as YHM bu...

Re: Should have asked for the option...

If the controller was annoyed, that suggests to me he thought you intended to do a full stop the whole time. It is not uncommon that a pilot is cleared to land then does a touch and go (or vice-versa), without ever communicating that was their intent. I suspect it was not apparent to the controller ...

Re: Long Landing Thread

When landing in YYZ on RWY 05 in the Dash-8 during my Jazz days, the controllers frequently gave the landing clearance as "Jazz 123, cleared to land RWY 05, long landing approved." As a former controller trainee, I wonder what would happen if there was a runway over-run. Even though almost every Da...

Not sure how last one out first one back is unfortunate. It's just logical. What's unfortunate is that there are layoffs in the first place and that our union never gave us a chance to vote on proposed salary freezes/cuts to save these jobs. Shame on CATCA. I think he meant unfortunate for anyone w...
