And if you fly in Alberta for oil companies utilizing contrail standards, you will probably be restricted to this: d) Unless further restricted by the Aviation Authority (in which case those restrictions shall apply), NO Flight Crew Member or maintenance employee shall perform their duties: i) Withi...

Re: Chopper accident at Fiji resort, passengers survive

That is a good point, rapid nose down/tail up before the launch. I just can't see it happening from even a moderate tail wind. Maybe if he was touching down, tail into wind, on some steep mountain ridge line, I could understand; but som beach, som where....(pun intended). Thank goodness all are okay.

Re: Chopper accident at Fiji resort, passengers survive

A tornado sized gust of wind wouldn't cause a machine to launch like that. A very speculative but plausible scenario would be the purse strap or camera strap belonging to the front seat pax was inadvertently wrapped around the collective. Said pax raises the purse/camera rapidly, and the AStar along...

Re: FAA Conversion License

There is Revision 1 to the original IPL that came into effect earlier this year. There hasn't been a new AC to publish it in the mainstream yet though. The amendment now includes helicopters. You can find it by googling implementation procedures for licensing on the FAA web site. I did my heli ATPL ...

Re: TC ATPL to FAA ATP Conversion - ACTION NEEDED

OK, no problem, but I'm not quite sure what you mean by "just wrote the exams like everyone else". I think I need to know which exam you wrote and when you wrote it (before or after Aug 1, 2014). If you have already written and passed the exam for FAA ATPL-A, then you don't need to attend any course...

Re: TC ATPL to FAA ATP Conversion - ACTION NEEDED

You're right, two exams but each for a specific scenario. The ATM is the exam a U.S. FAA CPLA holder writes to get a U.S. FAA ATPL- aeroplane. The ACM is the exam a Canadian ATPL-A holder writes to convert it to an FAA ATPL-Aeroplane. Either exam require a certificate of completion of the ATPL cours...

Re: TC ATPL to FAA ATP Conversion - ACTION NEEDED

Just to clarify and validate go to: http://www.faa.gov/aircraft/air_cert/international/bilateral_agreements/baa_basa_listing/media/Canada_IPL_rev1.pdf The conditions for conversion are in the Annex, and the helicopter category starts on page A-7 and goes to page A-13. On page A-13 it states "No furt...

Re: TC ATPL to FAA ATP Conversion - ACTION NEEDED

No. The most recent update of the airman Knowldge Testing Matrix on Feb 9/15 specifically states that the ACH does Not require any further authorization to write, whereas the ACM and ATM exams require a certificate of completion of the atp course from a part 141 school. We are off the hook for heli's.

Re: TC ATPL to FAA ATP Conversion - ACTION NEEDED

Sorry. The above should have said signed by the FAA on Dec 03/14 and TC Dec 10/14. Obviously not dec/15. My bad.

Re: TC ATPL to FAA ATP Conversion - ACTION NEEDED

Revision 1 of the original Implementation Procedures for Licensing was just signed by the FAA on Dec 03/15 and by TC on Dec 10/15 to include the helicopter category now, instead of only fixed wing. In addition, we don't have to take the Part 141 atp course to write the ACH airman knowledge test. So ...

Accountability in recruitment process

I wonder if something like this would work; or, better yet, be one of the first order of business for an new association: Perhaps an association could lobby the ESDC to set up industry specific application data bases that would receive cc'd applications as clear evidence of a Canadian applicant appl...

Re: Do som research before paying for a Helicopter Pilot's L

In addition to the barriers and road blocks already mentioned above, there is another that new heli pilots need to be aware of, particularly if they think that the oil patch is going to be their entry level flying job. Contrail standards govern the experience requirements many of the oil companies a...
