Re: Expecting a baby but want to be a pilot

I know plenty of Ladyaviators with families. One of my instructors at flight school didn't start flying until she was into her 30's, and had 2 older children and 1 in diapers. I know I'd kind of given up the idea of kids and family when I was initially going through my training, but awesome women li...

Re: Which school is better? HARVSAIR or moncton flight coll

I'm an MFC graduate. The aircraft, instructors, and facilities are top notch... The weather is not. I waited 5 weeks for my CPL flight test. If I could do it all over again, I probably would've gone to Harv's. I wanted to get done and working as soon as possible and just crappy weather added months ...

Yellowknife Float Rating

Is there anyone in YZF offering float training? Last conversation I could find on here was from 11 years ago, hoping someone has a little more current information!

Thanks :)

Re: Road trip

If you look at the top of the page you'll find a "search" button. Type in road trip, and you'll find a very large amount of stories and advice that are exactly what you're looking for. There are no bad times of year to road trip, just less ideal times. Put on a nice shirt, and keep driving north unt...

Re: North Wright Airways

Your own bedroom is provided, no bunk beds. 2 weeks of vacation annually, but more days off are common in the less busy winter months. There is no weather pressure from the company. PIC's word is king. Can't provide a set time for twin turbine upgrade, it's entirely dependent on what spot becomes av...

Re: A path with purpose

I'm divided on this one. On one hand, I know a couple of the people who've been selected for this program and are now flying for Jazz, and they truly are the cream of the crop kind of folks. On the other hand, brains can only get you so far, and when the chips are down and the excrement is hitting t...

Re: Private FI in Calgary area. Worth it, or stay with schoo

I've got a CPL and my Cherokee partner has a student permit... Insurance was a little extra but no legal impediments. He saved a boat load on his PPL with his half share in the plane (we've been pretty fortunate so far maintenance wise though) but even with putting aside a per-hour-flown maintainenc...

Oh goodness. So many possibilities. Aerobatics training, advanced spin and upset recovery, tail wheel check out (demonstrates good hands and feet) If you're not looking to spend any money, teach ground school to cadets, or become actively involved in some other volunteer organization. I've had a few...

Re: Bahamas Trip!

Based on all of your helpful hints, I think I have a plan. The COPA/AOPA guides are fantastic. Hoping it'll save my bacon flying through all of those centres. I've got foreflight pro and a stratus 2 with ADS-B, just downloaded the US maps and trying to make myself as familiar as possible with the ai...

Re: Bahamas Trip!

I belong to COPA and hadn't even thought of that... Thanks!

I assumed I'd have to bring cash for things. I've travelled in the Caribbean before and it seems like nothing happens unless you have USD in your hands.

There's a seat for DanWEC if he has gas money :) :)

Bahamas Trip!

I bought a Cherokee for time building, but I'm getting bored of doing laps around lake simcoe and Georgian bay and $200 hamburgers. I'm based in Buttonville. The weather hasn't been letting me venture much further east or west. Then it occurred to me that I have a valid passport and money that I was...

They told me 4-6 months for my initial application, but being born here and no questionable gaps makes that considerably shorter I think.

Re: The journey is better than the destination

I think what they're getting at is that it's pointless to be miserable while you work your way towards the dream job, whatever that may be. By all means be driven towards that goal (I'm sure a few months slinging cargo in subzero is very motivating) but appreciate the experience and opportunities al...

Re: Restoring plastic windows

I had the same issue on my Cherokee. I tried everything, and some sanding/polishing/ chemicals made it better, but still not good enough. It became opaque with the sun shining through it. I sucked it up and bought new plastic, and it wasn't nearly as pricey as I was expecting, and it took all of an ...

Well that is just all kinds of depressing. What do people do to keep the corrosion away over the winter? Full covers?
