Re: doug ronan removed as director from copa

I would run for a directors' position, but they won't allow any vocal or opinionated directors from the States that know and understand Chicago back room political assassination strategy....

Re: doug ronan removed as director from copa

The organization is self destructing all on its own. COPA terminated one of the most knowledgeable directors, totally committed to improving general aviation in Canada when they couldn't admit they made a huge mistake with the insurance program and Psutka wanted headlines instead of a workable solut...

Re: doug ronan removed as director from copa

I'm in. Where do I send the check...? This will be the easiest law suite to win in a long time. All settlements go to COPA.

Re: doug ronan removed as director from copa

How about this for Chicago style politics and intimidation. A person close to COPA told me recently that COPA President Psutka is demanding that Doug Ronan issue a public apology for his remarks about some of the board members and the President or he would be sued for defamation of character. Ronan ...

Re: doug ronan removed as director from copa

The issue has been on this forum since June. It has received hundreds of views, but very little support for a Special Meeting. The By-laws require a petition signed by 5% of the membership to have a Special Meeting. Possibly 1% signed a petition that covered this issue plus a few concerns. Some memb...

Re: doug ronan removed as director from copa

JJ, You are right about the implications for COPA when the membership accepts the insidious actions of the leadership of an organization. The termination of Doug Ronan's membership using the thin premise that a when a member is renewing his membership, the officers of COPA have the right to deny tha...

Re: COPA Board BREAKS THE LAW

The only way an organization has any influence with legislators is to control a large number votes and contributions to their campaign fund. Small splinter "clubs" are just social groups that can't change anything except their meeting date.

Re: COPA Board BREAKS THE LAW

I guess that means you don't care if COPA is run according to the Constitution and Bylaws approved by a majority of the members.

Re: COPA Board BREAKS THE LAW

The old Bylaws said the President had the right to approve a new membership. They said nothing about approving a renewal of an existing member. 2010 Bylaws (superseded by new, 2013 Bylaws) 3-A Eligibility Any person who supports COPA's objectives may become a member upon acceptance of their applicat...

Re: COPA Board BREAKS THE LAW

The petition will ask for a Special Meeting to decide three things; (1) did the Board of Directors comply with the Bylaws when they would not accept Doug Ronan's membership renewal fee. (2) a vote by the members to renew Ronan's membership or remove him as a member. (3) If his membership is renewed,...

Re: COPA Board BREAKS THE LAW

Airframe I guess you see things in black and white, no gray areas in your opinion. Neither side has to use all 14 minutes, but should have adequate time to fully explain their position. I don't understand your comment that I am going about this the wrong way and should get a 3rd party involved. The ...

Re: COPA Board BREAKS THE LAW

Airframe, You are right, the petition is way out of line with the main issue, i.e., the Board violating the Bylaws. I think a simple one issue petition may have a chance to succeed. It only takes 5% of the members to sign a petition calling for a Special Meeting. Membership is under 18000 and fallin...

Re: COPA Board BREAKS THE LAW

Very good points. Someone else wrote the petition and it had quite a few signatures before I got so ticked off at the dirty politics and blatant abuse of the Bylaws. I assumed that if a Special Meeting was called the members could decide to delete the paragraphs that did not directly apply to the vi...

How much forking clearer do you need it? The Bylaws are so straight forward any freshman in high school can understand them.
Did you sign the petition?

Re: COPA Board BREAKS THE LAW

Real simple explanation: the Bylaws clearly say a membership can only be terminated by a vote of the members as long as the member has met the few requirements for renewal. I joined COPA because I enjoy flying in Canada and COPA has been the best representative for general aviation. However, the Chi...

Re: COPA Board BREAKS THE LAW

Just when I thought the dead horse had stopped twitching. If the COPA members let this issue just fade away they have accepted a governing Board of Directors that has decided that they are not bound by the Constitution or Bylaws of COPA. The dirty politics of the Ronan issue is only the first situa...

Re: COPA Board BREAKS THE LAW

According to members on the Board, Doug Ronan’s membership was not renewed because he would not stand by and silently watch the President and Board lead COPA down a path of irrelevance by needlessly spending $25000 to fight with the airport operator and Porter Airlines over general aviation rights ...

COPA Board BREAKS THE LAW

All members of COPA The Board of Directors has not followed the Bylaws of the organization and therefore has violated the National Not for Profit Act of Canada. I sent a letter directly to each Board member on August 4th stating that they did not follow the Bylaws when they terminated Doug Ronan's m...

Re: doug ronan removed as director from copa

August 4, 2013 Dear Mr. Hayes and the COPA Board of Directors, I am a long term member of AOPA and fly in Canada several times a year. I have always admired the good work COPA does representing general aviation throughout Canada. I joined COPA to support the organization that makes flying better for...
