Re: Swoop Staffing

I'm afraid Swoop is going to be a training school for AC and the Chinese. Can you file an unfair labor practice against your competitor for poaching your staff? Give them benefits and a proper pension, and this crisis might not be looming. Interesting times for WJ management, pending strike vote, hi...

Swoop Staffing

How are they planning on staffing Swoop, when they can't even staff mainline and encore. Alone for the month of April, they hired 17 Pilots away from WJ mainline/encore. From a business point of view, if you don't want to lose expensive trained staff to your competitor, you better belly up to the ne...

Re: Westjet. The new PML to Air Canada!

In the last course of October, they have 5 former WestJetters. On a side note, and I'm not trying to stir the pot here, apparently their is over 200 resumes on file from WJ pilots. At 4 to 5 pilots on every course coming from WJ, this must be creating some crewing issues at WJ.

Re: Future YYC pilot base?

Not ever going to happen, if it weren't for the ACPPA, YUL/YWG would not exist as bases. This little rumour crops up ever so often, it's primarily wistful thinking. If you want to live in YYC, better bid into YVR, that's an easy commute. Best career advancement will always be YYZ, it's the primary b...

Re: Buffalo Ad

First, I loved my time in the Knife, look back at with great fondness. I was there for eight years and made life long friends, many still live there. That being said, Buffalo's advert tells me two things, pilot's don't have to go north anymore and work the ramp for the carrot. Two, where in Canada a...

Re: Air Canada Pool

It means your buddy is not out of the running, they just have better qualified candidates, or more pilots to be processed through the PMA. AC is heading into a period of growth, combined with retirements. I can almost assure you, any academic requirements are going to be waved. I think the most juni...

Re: Cardiac arrest..never get a medical again?

Tell your friend that he will have to switch Doctors. It requires work on the part of the Doc to get the ball rolling in the right direction, and let's be frank some of these ol'docs are lazy and do not want to put the time in on the required paperwork, or referrals to specialists.

Upgrade at AC/Jazz is strictly govern on your senority, command time has nothing to do with it. I promise you, by the time you get the senority to hold command you will have the required experience for the job.

Re: Bob Engle

To say Bob was astute businessmen woul be an under statement. How he played Air Canada was a thing to behold, and then they left him in charge for two years after he sold the company to them. It took another two years after that for AC to finally figure out how badly they had been played by him. PRI...

I'm old, school guy, if your going to have a tat, it had better be a marine corp or regimental tattoo. Olympians can have one as well, but as far as AC, THEY COULD GIVE A RATS ASS. within reason of course. :smt040

YUP!!! Lifes a bioch! This is the kind of "catch 22" that young pilots have had to face since Wilbur and Orville argued over who was more qualified to do the first flight. :smt014

Re: Airline without turbine time?

Anything is possible, in 2005 AC hired a young man (23) with 2500 hrs, his time was all piston single/twin time. No, his Daddy was not a captain at the airline, and yes he was an experiment that turned out very well. But, the truth is we have the pick of the litter, your chances improve dramatically...

Per-diems are based on the exchange rate, country and the price of meals for the hotel you're staying in. Generally, once you get away from the hotel, you can find cheaper beer/food choices. Hence, most crews make a little money on the monthly expenses.

Re: 30 to late for an attempt career as a pilot for the air

Confederation College grad or any aviation college grad gives you the post secondary requirement for the mil. The mil isn't what it use to be, be prepared to do more then just be a pilot, the few friends I have left in the service are nearing retirement and for the most part loved it. But to a man, ...

This isn't the first time this has been tried out of CCS, but not on such a large scale. Being out by one or two is a clerical error, but five! Good on the Captain for catching it, saved AC a bundle in potential fines, not to mention keeping five illegals off the tax payer pay roll after they claim ...

I see Buffalo is advertising for ramp help, with the carrot of an eventual move to a flying position. Is it getting harder for them to find people willing to go this route? Most of my friends kids are now finding jobs without having to go this route.

Re: AC Pilots Successfully Defend Air Ontario Pilots Lawsuit

I can't believe ACPA would offer no costs in exchange for no appeal at this stage. That seems like a really good deal for the AO guys. What really belies belief is that the AO would turn that offer down. This case was clearly successful on its merits and I really see no grounds for an appeal. Their...

Re: Living in YYC. Feasible???

Even when CS pushes you to get there faster. Get there safely. 100% agree with this. All crew sched cares about really is that your bum will eventually be in the seat. It's STOC that cares about an on time departure (well...and Klaus). If you run into a traffic problem or any other kind of snag you...
