Most cost-effective way to get Multi-IFR
Hello, I'm trying to find the most cost-effective way to get a Multi-IFR in my circumstance. I took advantage of as much extra (free) instrument training I could get at my school, and as a result, I only need 5hrs instrument flight time. This includes the 100nm X/C, and 5 hours on a multi. I've look...

Can watch one of their practice flights from multiple angles here:

Pretty cool! Looks like they use the auto throttle a lot.

Re: Flying Near the Border
Thanks for the replies! You have to file a flight plan, have a transponder code, and be communicating with ATC: http://copanational.org/files/AOPACOPACrossBorderOperationsManual.pdf ("Overflights" section). I'm not sure if a flight plan is technically required, at least in BC where Victoria/Vancouve...

Flying Near the Border
Thus far in my flying I have always just avoided flying near the border. Now, I'm trying to learn more about flying around it. Say if I wanted to fly between these two imaginary Canadian water aerodromes. Crossing the border on the way there. Is a flight plan required when only transitioning through...

Re: Be a Better Pilot
Another one I would add is to wait until you're actually ready to taxi before doing your brake test on a busy ramp. I have seen pilots pull forward and do the brake test before even calling ground. Leaving them in a position that prevents other aircraft from getting by. Then we have to wait until th...

Re: flight following - info and any tips?
Nav Canada has their own computer system, and most of the interface is all touchscreen now. The squawk code they give you is automatically generated by computer. From the time that you're given the code, you're active in the system. Ground literally swipes you over to Tower, Tower to Terminal, etc.....

Laminated vs non-Laminated Charts
Hello, I need to buy some new VNC's, and was wondering... what is your preference in charts? Laminated or non-laminated? My first charts are plain paper. They have the advantage of being able to just use pencil on them, and erase it. But, I find it difficult to read the pencil markings in-flight. Th...

Re: Glasses for Pilots
Thanks for the replies so far.
I tried a pair of glasses with clip-ons yesterday and found that a lot of light leaks in around the sides.
So I may consider getting prescription sunglasses instead.

Glasses for Pilots
A few questions for those that wear glasses while flying. - Do you recommend the Anti-Reflective coatings on the lenses? - Are there any particular frame features you look for? (semi-rimless, rimless, lens size?) - For the sun. Do you have a separate pair of prescription sunglasses, or do you use Cl...

Re: Rush Medical
Thanks AOW, for the tip about getting a Cat. 4. TC seems to have conflicting information about the Cat. 4 though. Which is correct? On this page: http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/standards/general-personnel-gen-477.htm It says that only applicants for a Student Pilot Permit - Glider OR Ultra-Li...

Re: Rush Medical
This is an initial application for a medical. I'm asking because I have a deadline to submit my medical to my school, and want to make sure I have it in time.
How long does it take most folks to receive their paper in the mail from TC?

Rush Medical
Does anyone know if it's possible to put a rush on a Medical in order to receive it back from TC faster? (extra fee?)
If not, how long does it usually take to receive it in the mail from the date of the exam?
Thanks!
