Re: Paint shops within a couple hours of Toronto
John Goris and Purple Hill Air is just northeast of London (90 miles SW of Toronto). We've used them before and they did an excellent job. Some of their paint jobs have gone on to win awards at Oshkosh. https://www.purplehillair.com/ Thanks, gave John a call and had a chat about it. He certainly so...

Paint shops within a couple hours of Toronto
It's time for the 172 to get a fresh coat of paint. Does anyone have suggestions for a shop within say 200 nm of Toronto?

500 Gallon fuel tank - Toronto area
I'm part of the Bombardier/Dehavilland flying club and with Downsview closing we're moving everything out from the airport. Our new home will be Brampton which obviously has its own fuel and as such we will no longer need our 500 gallon storage tank. It's a double walled tank, made in April 2022 by ...

- No video of the inside of the cabin before losing power. - Flew in the wrong direction - Wore skydiving gear which he doesnt in any other video - Opened the door before the engine cut out - Crashed into a national park (no chance of getting authorization) - No attempt to restart - Slows the plane...

Perfect, thanks. The next serial range has the part available and it looks to be the exact same as what I have.

Source for plastic Cessna panel overlays
The old Royalite overlays in our 172M are doing what most of that vintage are and gradually turning to dust. Plane Plastics sells replacements for the LH and switch panels but I haven't been able to find anything for the RH panel. https://vantageassoc.com/airplane/cessnasingle/172/1974172m17261899th...

Re: Building Time as a Glider Tow Pilot?
I'm planning to become a tow pilot at my club this summer but not for time building. I was warned that the most I could expect was 20-25 hrs/year, which isn't exactly burning through logbook pages. For me it's about learning a new type of flying and being a better pilot. And if I can get some experi...

Re: Pilot leaves towbar on runway??
Definitely left it on until takeoff. My bet is that it fell off after rotation/liftoff since anything sooner would have been a pretty good bump to him and hopefully gotten his attention. The damage to that towbar wasn't caused by someone dragging it while walking around. Moral of the story: If you d...

Re: Watch that thumb-switch
I would have thought a load release switch would be guarded in some manner? Unless the pilot was intentionally flying with the guard open. Seems like a good way to destroy the load and squash people on the ground.

Re: Split winglets
Boeing rolled out an in-service upgrade for the NG's a few years ago. The winglets aren't quite the same as the Max though - the Max ones are more symmetrical whereas the NG ones are closer to an old winglet with a baby one tacked on to the bottom.

Re: Bose aviation headsets...pleased be advised:
Why bother with an authorized service center? It's not like you're trying to protect your warranty at this point. You have a 10-20 year old discontinued product, just bring it to an audio electronic repair shop and have them fix the wiring. Or patch it yourself. If the boards are still good then it'...

Re: What bases and routes do you think the A220 will have?
220s won’t be ETOPS, they said the airplane is too small for any overseas flying TC gave it 180-min ETOPS in January. It's been tested for New York-London, so overseas routes should be a very solid possibility. https://www.aviationtoday.com/2019/01/17/airbus-a220-etops-new-assembly-line-shutdown-de...

Canadian sources for interior plastics
It seems that someone crushed the plastic interior panel around our 172's windshield frame (left front door post, the one with the soup can vent in the top). Are there any Canadian sources for interior plastics? We might swap a few things out at the same time and brokerage fees and shipping from the...

Re: Great news for the Global 7500...
Under what CARs subpart do experimental flight test aircraft operate? 702? 604? Is there some caveat in the 500 series CARs for this type of operation? I'm genuinely curious. This one is a fully certified production model. Of the 5 flight test planes only one had a production interior installed, th...

Re: Don't block the pumps
I usually push/pull the plane away from the pumps if anyone else is waiting or if there are a number of parked planes behind me. Quicker than starting, don't feel so rushed, and no chance of sand blasting anyone. Pumps are a high pedestrian area and I'd rather keep spinning props far away from soft ...
