Re: Air Tindi Fatal TSB Report To Be Released March 20, 2013

I'm surprised they didn't have two samples as well. Normal protocol with WADA testing (World anti doping association) requires two samples. If the first one is a positive test, then the second sample is tested also. If the second is positive you declare a positive test result. Perhaps coroners are o...

Re: Had to abort a takeoff

It's been a while, two questions: One - wouldn't a weak accelerator pump cause the same thing to happen; regardless of temperature. As I understand it, they are simply plungers with seals that spray/sqeeze extra fuel through the ventury when throttle applications are made? A gradual increse of throt...

If we want a fast interceptor why not go straight for a couple of SR-71's? The sonic boom alone would surely knock any invaders out of the sky.

Re: flying over the rockies, vfr, light twin, early summer

I'll keep my post brief. Basically fly the road. It will be the safest and is a great place to set down if one of your engines bags out. Before you start cutting corners (with your family in tow) just ask yourself where you would put down if the engine failed right now. Other than that, enjoy the fl...

Re: Question about power on stalls

Just stand on opposite rudder, no matter which wing drops. Sometimes an aircraft will surprise you and not do what the rules say it should. In slow slow/stall flight use the rudder to keep wings level and check that you don't have any aileron on, as this will agravate the insipient spin.

Re: Fuel consumption.

Keep in mind most Beavers, and the POH, indicate fuel burn in imperial gallons. 20 Imp is not 90 litres/hr. If you are burning significantly over 20 Imp an hour while using 28/18 or 29/19 you should mention it to your mechanic. Very likely there is something else not right with the engine and carb s...

Re: RCAF Replacement of Rescue Aircraft Delayed... Yet Again

Yah!! lets get a bunch of osprey tilt rotor planes/helicopters  I'm sure they would be cheaper to operate than the current fleet and they must have at least a 40 yr lifespan on the airframe right? How could that machine ever be considered for search and rescue when the current budje...

And another reminder. The Aircraft involved are not any different than what you see flying all over the rest of Canada; 737, twin otter, caravan. Educate yourself. Sincere condolences to the families involved.

Re: DAL Aviation- Float Pilot

If you are going for such a short period, I would think/ask how many hours exactly you will be working. Most likely your duty day will exceed 12hrs, and since the company needs to earn its living in ten weeks you probably will get minimal days off, ergo 60 of 70days working? Now do the math; approx ...

Just remember, people fly gliders (no engine) around mountains all the time. They do it on ideal days, in ideal conditions. It is some of the most enjoyable flying you can ever do.

+1 what Liquid Charlie said. personally i don't like fidling with the flaps once they are set; Keep your hand on the throttle so you are ready to over shoot if need be.

Re: What would you do?

The 'Dead stick' issue is a moot point. The aircraft doesn't care if the engine is running or not; it simply changes your rate of descent.

Re: What would you do?

It depends on the wind, your airplane and size of the lake....

BUT why make a guaranteed crash landing in the trees when you could simply make a normal landing on the water with floats.

(you must know the answer to this no? beaver driver)

Re: Tips for float flying on the West Coast

This accident and a couple of others are very fresh in my memory, I read the report and its was sickening. Case in point would be to refresh your memory of the Grumman Goose fatal crash out of Vancouver and have a look at the weather he departed in and the weather enroute. Laughable. I doubt you've ...

Re: Tips for float flying on the West Coast

Actually Legal min on the south coast will be 1 mile vis in special vfr while in the control zone. As for the previous post suggesting there are operators screeming with bulging veins at their pilots to fly in fog.. cant think of anyone around here that would do this.. and clearly if you encounter a...
