Re: Moving to Africa

Congratulations. I've seen quite a few adventurous Canadians make that trip and all successfully land a job. I'd suggest that you take the opportunity to renew your instructor rating before you leave as it will win you some respect in Africa at your level of hours. You might even need it for job if ...

Re: Montreaal or Toronto for flight training...cornell vs al

Cornwall happens to be nicely located between Montreal and Toronto without their traffic or Air Nav fees and or the expensive overheads. They are an Multi-IFR "mill" that churns out a very high number on a production line that gets you out the door completed in a minimum amount of time. Just make th...

Re: My recent multi-IFR renewal at Cornwall Aviation

The statistics are noteworthy. Cornwall Aviation do more IFR renewals than anywhere else in Canada. It may look like a country airfield but if there is one word I would use is "productive". You can have the greatest most modern looking facilities with models in uniforms walking about but at the end ...

Re: Ottawa Aviation Services

These sorts of posts are pure advertizing, the posters seem to think they are being clever when the reality is, those sorts of games reflect negatively. Personally, I chose a school where I don't pay government nav fees for every flight that also involves significant taxi time, and flying to and fro...

Re: how can I improve my landings?

Well a lot of people will be pissed off by this post, but, here is my not so humble opinion. I cringe at reading all the nonsensical ideas such as, you need a cushion to see over the nose, slow down, hold the nose up to the end of the runway, slow down etc. "Trouble with landings", generally, means ...

Re: Calgary Flying Club CFI

There will always be the job as CFI guaranteed if you do your CPL training and Instructor training as part of the incestuous Canadian Flight Training ideas used by colleges etc to guarantee their students jobs as instructors. Business and politics have more to do with flight training than genuine ex...

Re: Proposed Flight Crew Fatigue Regs

I notice the TC exams show few questions on this subject. In other countries you have to know it backwards. Canada seems to allow almost anything under special permissions that would not likely be granted in other jurisdictions. I've seen close on 150 hours in less than two weeks and it's hard to no...

Re: Proposed Flight Crerw Fatigue Regs

Canada has a long history of an apathetic approach to duty time and flight time limitations
that seem to be justified by the long summer days and seasonal work.

It's only a matter of time before that apathy results or at least
contributes to an accident.

It's a tragic number that is never ending reminder of the realities of life especially to those who wish to stay alive. Hopefully someone will fill us in on how and why this accident occurred. Re: Covert FAA Instrument rating to canadian one

One lesser known feature of swapping an FAA IFR for a Canadian is that you only get "one kick of the can". You can't do it any other time and while you may be exempt of a flight test, that only works once. From there on, each requires it's own renewal, your FAA and IPC an old fashioned renewal in Ca...

You may have no idea of "what it is about" So I'll respond. The Colonel has opinions like everyone else however his are more outspoken. While I don't agree with his political views for example, I've rarely seen anything on basic flying, flight instruction or airmanship that was not a valuable contri...

Speaking of Pitt's pilots,

Can anyone explain why the Colonel's posts have disappeared?

Has a moderator gone nuts again?

Re: Anoninimity good or bad?

It's disappointing to see the moderator's "banning" the colonel and then "shutting down" that thread. My opinion, is that opinions are like rectums, everyone has one, and it appears that because someone want's to play god, with their power, and ban one poster that has done a deal for Canadian Aviati...

The actions of the "moderator/s" who banned the Colonel demonstrate their own personality disorders in such a draconian action. Career wise, you will NOT have any trouble in converting your licence, and the process is relatively easy. The hardest exam is the INRAT and you can do that on line and test yourself with the online study. The other exams and requirements will be easy for you. Your first medical is a bit extra by wa...

Re: Whats the job market like at 1000hrs and a MIFR?

Dito, I've seen quite a few junior instructors, as I shall call them, go to a turbine job on a few hundred hours with little multi experience. But, if you are thousands of hours multi turbine and instructing, it's a lot easier to get a job on a King Air than it is to get a job instructing. I'd agree...
