Re: Jobs without an ATPL or IATRA
Only aircraft that are Two Crew aircraft as defined by the CARS need an IATRA or ATPL as an FO. Planes such as the Dash 8, ATR etc. Most 704 types only require a CPL as an FO, 1900, Twin Otter etc. 1900s and Twin Otters technically don’t even need an ATPL for a captain position, though that’s quite ...

Re: Rise air
No. That being said, my understanding is that PICUS can only be attained on a Large Aircraft, being anything over 12,500lbs. So no King Air 200 operator will offer PICUS. Better option would be to stick around and upgrade to the left seat of the King Air at 1500 hours. No ATPL required, and you’ll g...

Re: Crash and fire at Lake Simcoe Regional
The one thing I remember from my King Air training, is that there was a rare but fairly well known failure mode of the flap motor where it would not shut off, burn itself out, and start a fire coming from the cabin floor. I’ve had something close to this happen in a 200. Retracted the flaps after s...

Re: Importance of the ability to fly into the US
I don’t know a lot about particulars surrounding Visas, but for my company, it comes down to the ability to train in a simulator. All our two crew aircraft train in the sim, and only one is in Canada. The rest are spread around the United States. For some aircraft, on wing training is possible, but ...

I’m guessing around 50-60/month. May vary month to month but that’s probably a good average.

Above is accurate. Saabs will be slowly phased out in favour of more ATRs in the next few years. Mix of sched service and workforce transportation.

Re: nav can awws site closure
I’ve heard from a Nav Canada person that AWWS will NOT close down for a few more months. They will work to fix the issues on CFPS in the interim, and longer term (1-2years?) they intend to either rebuild it completely or replace it all together. They admit that it is basically a disaster and are wor...

Re: Logging Co-Pilot time on Single Crew Aircrafts
FO time on single pilot aircraft is absolutely accepted but as was noted above only if the operator has TC approved 2 crew SOPS and the FO has a PCC . I know of at least one pilot who had 2 years of flying time disallowed because the operator was too cheap to do a PCC. If you are an FO flying in a ...

Re: Logging Co-Pilot time on Single Crew Aircrafts
Obviously I assume since a company has FO positions for such aircrafts, that means their COM (or AOC?) calls for it otherwise they wouldn't be paying another salary from their goodness of their heart. Therefore, if their COM/AOC dictates for FO on single pilot aircrafts, are the Co-Pilot hours you ...

Wow, That was absolutely beautiful, sincerely! If you ever write a book, I’d be the first to buy it. Seems like the king of guy I’d love to grab a coffee with and chat the day away. The 703 gig is very decent, but the ultimate goal is Ac as stated. I do have all my PIC for my ATPL but only around 1...

Re: Dash-8 Fo or Pic
I would do the 703 Captain for a year or two. You’ll learn more about flying and also about yourself as a pilot and that experience will be much more beneficial down the road at a large 705.

Re: Pilot in waiting jobs situation
So really there is no pilot shortage, just a captain with 2000 hours shortage . Bingo. FOs at 703/4s get their 1000hrs TT and the vast majority leave when Encore or Jazz call. There is a small minority who do stick around to get some MPIC and take advantage of the growing medevac salaries ($100-180...

Re: Rise Air Hiring ?
All pilots are on a 28 day block schedule. 18 working days 10 days off. Normally weekends end up being days off. Benefits are with Sunlife, matching RRSPs after 2 years I believe. King Air in YVC is mainly medevac with some charter while the Twin Otter is mainly charter with some medevac. Current op...

704 19 Seat Turboprop. Base around 74k. With some OT and training pay it’ll be closer to 100k gross.

Re: King Air SIC time
I believe that if it’s operated as a two crew aircraft, then you would log it as copilot time. Different log books may call it something else but that’s what mine has.
