Re: Pulling out of yyc

I fully expect WJ to announce expansion to Europe from western Canada in the near future. With what aircraft? They canceled their last 2 dreamliners on order, and only have a fleet of 7 dreamliners, with no current plans to expand that fleet. WS can't do anything more to Europe in the short to medi...

Re: YUL?

I'd love to see that happen. The only issue with yhu is the inability to operate transborder /international flights. If that gets figured out, the hell with yul and its management. But we're not there yet.. We'll see later what that becomes. There is nothing to figure out. Aeroport de Montreal, in ...

Re: Working ATC overseas

I work in Dubai. Worked for Nav Canada for 18 years. And have worked in Bahrain also. Approach and Enroute. Have been overseas 9 of the last 12 years. Yes you can do it and its not just serco. If you work in TML then you can apply to DANS. Dubai Air Navigation Services. For the Tower here you can P...

Re: Why does AC not have a base in YYC?

Opening a YC Base will never happen, if AC had their way there would only be a YZ Base. UL and WG are pure politics and VR just coasts (so to speak) along. Even if they did it would be open to the entire group, no guarantee the existing residences would be senior enough to hold it. I don't think so...

Re: Should Air Canada be nationalized

Considering I've answered the OP's question already, let's answer some ATC comments on here. Gotta be honest, whatever they (FAA) are using for weather is way better than Canada. I feel a lot more confident getting vectors from the Americans in terminal airspace, vs Canadian controllers who repeated...

Re: Should Air Canada be nationalized

Only 1 guy answered the OP's question, and the rest of the thread turned into a rant against NavCan. Why am I not surprised. https://canadiandimension.com/articles/view/why-we-need-to-renationalize-air-canada Above is an opinion piece. Weak arguments but fun to entertain anyways. What would jobs loo...

Re: RAIC

I think your son will be fine. His RAIC wasn't revoked because he did something he wasn't supposed to. That specific airport authority back then revoked his access. A RAIC is airport specific (Unless it's a Canada RAIC), and as long as he passes his background check by TC, the new airport authority ...

Re: RAIC Pass benefits?

10% discount on some restaurants at YUL. Although it's not RAIC dependent (for the restaurants before security, obviously). Any airport employee has access to the discount. This being said, just show up with any lanyard and an ID around your neck, and the cash attendant at most of those restaurants ...

Re: ADSB requirements come to GA in Canada 2023/2026

Those cheap bastards, they can’t even throw in Wx data in their transmissions to help sweeten the pot? I hope my old jalopy gets exempted. NavCan was supposed to start implementing their ADS-B mandate in class A airspace almost exactly a year ago. They delayed it, due to pushback from the flying co...

In many cases, the installation cost is 30-50% less for a 1090.

Re: Pilot / ATC license Statistics Link, Licensed AME’s in Canada Stats, where are they?

I’ve known the below link attached has existed for some time. Has anyone seen anything similar from TC re: AME numbers? I’d be very interested to see something parallel the pilots statistics. These stats are very discouraging even before the COVID19 pandemic things were declining. Looks like the ro...

Re: Digital control towers

I think the only fault in your argument Photo , is thinking it might be Toronto. This is an election year. It will be in Quebec. Interesting to have a 50 meter tower with 200 ft minimums. I am assuming it is off airport. Another small step forward to complete automation. Lol. Since when does NavCan...

Re: Tower closure predictions?

So, with the latest info from the Union, stating they're pushing Nav Canada to staff Towers to an adequate level before those that are there burn out, does anyone actually think training will recommence anytime soon(ish)? Doubt it. They will try to staff through cross-training and temporary deploym...

Re: JetBlue's coming North

I wonder how much of a payload restriction they will have on a 321 doing BOS-YVR.... IIRC that’s getting near the max range on the standard 321; I’m not sure what they have regarding ACTs. Jetblue bought the A321 with these longer transcon routes in mind, so I don't think there would be any restric...

Re: JetBlue's coming North

I think you’re making a lot of assumptions about what JetBlue will or won’t do - as you said, these routes are a long way off, and a lot can change between now and 2022. For starters, JetBlue has deployed Mint on a number of routes which aren’t traditionally thought of as business-heavy routes, but...

Re: JetBlue's coming North

It will be interesting if they expand to Toronto or Montreal, or to west coast destinations from YVR. That could be challenging for Canadian carriers. There is a reason they chose YVR-JFK/BOS and not YUL/YYZ-Florida or New York. The YVR routes are underserved and therefore could command a nice prem...

Re: JetBlue's coming North

It will be interesting to see how Air Canada/WestJet react to this. JetBlue has a fantastic premium-class product on their A321s in their Mint class, with lie-flat seats and pods - nothing that either AC or WS currently offer on their narrow-body fleets are comparable. I'm predicting a bloodbath in...
