Non RVSM in RVSM airspace

Just had a quick question I run into every once and a while. When flying a non rvsm aircraft that is able to fly above FL280 is there a lot of work involved to let us up higher on occasion? Sometimes we run into situations where going up a few thousand feet would really help us out. These can includ...

Re: AC Charging Extra for Emergency Exit Seats

What happens when the person that pays the extra money has the FA deem them unfit to sit in the exit row. Now not only do you have to just relocate someone, you have to recolate someone that paid extra money to sit there and somehow get them a refund. Another touchy situation for Cabin Crew to deal ...

Re: Vancouver STARs

We run into this problem on a regular basis. At present I think all company pilots ask if the restrictions are waived when given a descent below published altitudes. Often in YVR they will even tell us the restrictions are waived when they give us the descent. Not in YVR but in YYC I've had some bus...

Re: I'm Stuck

Seriously one week and you are thinking about giving up? I know people in many other fields that have taken much longer to find a job when times are good. Right now there are many educated people out of jobs. Times are tough and it might take a little while to find something. I was a little picky bu...

Re: Sorry, just have to rant!

For those wondering... From the TC AIM 9.7.3 Speed Adjustment – Radar Controlled Aircraft NOTE: This section is for information only. It describes directives to controllers and in no way alters the applications of CAR 602.32, which prescribes the following maximum speeds for all aircraft: below 10 0...

Re: Bad Trip

First of all the CYBW controllers are great and I still cannot believe how they deal with what they do everyday. Students, private traffic, and now more and more IFR commercial traffic. I don't know why they were even brought up at all. On to the original topic I have seen some really poor examples ...

Re: CMA vs Pacific Coastal?

Really for a 20 minute flight both companies are good. With price being similar and no "loyalty" to either I would simply decide on which company has the schedule that works for me and if I prefer to arrive at the main terminal or the south terminal.

Re: iPods on the flightdeck

I think it can be a good way to stay alert after you've flown 20 hrs with the same person in the past few days. I don't really think it is any worse than someone that reads the paper or does crossword puzzles. People just need to be smart about it and realize that they are getting paid to fly and no...

Re: Question:

I fully agree that pilots need to be a little better with reading the clearance back properly. The FSS may not understand the difference and they are required to hear it back word for word. I always try to be proper and it really isn't that hard or take very much longer to read back. If you're so ti...

Re: United Airlines among the latest to charge overwieght Pax

I'm 120 lbs, and on most airlines if my luggage weighs over 50 lbs I am charged an extra 50 dollars (that's the minimum charge)... So my entire weight with bags equals say 180 lbs (including my carry on, lets say 195 lbs)... meanwhile as I look around there are at least 50 people weighing in over 3...

Re: I just don't get it..some explain?

I don't work at AC but I will humour your questions. 1. While that plane may not require all the supplies for that flight they may for the flights following it. It is much easier to just fully stock generic items that don't spoil like pop and chips than to reconfigure for every flight. Also people a...

Re: RNAV SIDs

Grande Prairie, Springbank (I think), and Fort McMurray all have them. So far from what I have seen they work well when you do not have a terminal controller and want a simple and quick way of departing a/c instead of giving them a lot of instructions (turn to this heading for XX minutes BPOC cross ...

The first reply answered my question. check it out and learn about it, instead of whining about it! It always seems in life when people whine and complain they are jealous of others accomplishments. I wasn't whining at all. I think that RNP is the future and wish that my plane had that kind of equip...

RNP "Short Gate"

I think this has been discussed before but just wondering if there could possibly be a better way for it to be handled on the radio. Could there just be some kind of an understanding with ATC that you guys always want to do it if able? I think every other pilot is getting tired of being slowed down,...

Re: Traffic Advisories...

I fully agree and have flown very busy VFR where everyone is making short concise calls and it works just fine. I think alot can come from IFR guys that don't have to talk on 126.7 that often. Going into an uncontrolled airport having to call 15 minutes prior we're usually still above 20,000 feet. I...

Re: YYC closure last night? (Dec 21)

YVR was only using the North runway and was opening and closing it for plowing in roughly 30-40 minute intervals. Closed 30 minutes, open 30 minutes.

Re: YYC closure last night? (Dec 21)

I got into YYC very late last night/early this morning. It was snowing and the runway was pretty slick but nothing to crazy. Now YVR on the other hand. I spent 4.5 hours on the ground there waiting to get deiced. That was a total gong show.
