Re: EXPECTED NUMBER OF RETIREES AT AC.
Some real inaccurate info on this thread. It does not take years and years to hold a block as a NB captain. A good block maybe. I’m not sure a “good” block exists on most of our NB fleets… even the most senior pilots get a mixed bag of flying! I suppose part of the question is what constitutes a “g...

Re: EXPECTED NUMBER OF RETIREES AT AC.
Some real inaccurate info on this thread. It does not take years and years to hold a block as a NB captain. A good block maybe. It’s a prediction, which probably errs on the side of caution. I held a block as a NB captain in YYZ, less than 5.5 years after I came to AC, and would have likely done so...

I'm always open to Sulako's edicts. After all, he's a valuable contributor to these forums. I asked for help; not sure what your issue is, nor does it matter. Personal attacks aren't cool though, so you might want to consider your course of action going forward. If anyone sees a smart spammer...

Re: Air Canada pilots should negotiate at least to match Envoy and Medevac
Just curious… are you the type of pilot who will time themselves out for being a minute over duty day and strand a plane load of people? Wouldn’t surprise me if that was you. Been there, done that, watched guys like you laugh as you did it. Then you wonder why non pilots have no sympathy. I had one...

Hold up! We interrupt the slow moving negotiations to point out that your new lanyards are not approved, and may cause other employees or the travelling public to be offended.

Re: Air Canada pilots should negotiate at least to match Envoy and Medevac
To put into perspective, pilot compensation accounts for 3-6% of an airline’s total costs… some napkin math tells me that the average passenger pays more in Airport “Improvement” Fees, than they contribute towards pilot salaries.

Too bad “JetPort” was already taken…. Could have allowed the OG Q400 operation to retain the “Porter” call sign.

Re: Do you feel safe as a passenger when the captain has minimal hours on type?
Wonder how many hours this pilot had? I don't really care. I'm just happy I"m not flying. Nap time. But if you're going to mess up, do us all a favour and make it quick. That guy was part of the trial program to hire direct entry captains into the 777. He had 500 TT in a C172, this was his first la...

Lots of pilots out there taking Crestor.
Definitely tell your CAME. They probably want to see you take it for a little while to make sure there are no adverse reactions, but there should be no long term restrictions.

Re: Metric or Imperial
I suppose I can explain further… Fuel in Canada is sold in litres, so the fuel ticket will always show the net delivery in litres. However, most FBOs see enough Americans that if they receive an order in US Gallons, they know to multiply by 3.785 L/USG to make the conversion. Most airliners have fue...

Re: WestJet Cargo
Virtually all the flights seem to get cancelled. If they’re on your schedule then you’re gonna be given something out of the reserve pile as your cargo flight has maybe a 10% chance of happening. I highly suspect the cargo operation might be wrapped up soon. Another WestJet success story. If only t...

Don’t forget that the NRC website gives times in “Standard Time”, so during daylight saving time you have to adjust the times by one hour.
So if the sunset time shows 20:30 EST, that is 21:30 EDT.

Re: Should pilots be paid full hourly rates for every hour at airport on duty & ALPA MEC negotiate this?
If duty rigs and trip rigs are favourable enough (probably has to be better than 1:2 and 1:4), then it forces the company to build more productive pairings… there are arguments for both sides! I see value in keeping the rules similar to other operators, so wages can be more easily compared. Southwes...

Re: Thunder Airlines Hiring Times
I don’t have any recent information, but I do know that you won’t get a job you don’t apply to. The closer you are to posted “requirements”, the better you look, obviously! I can’t imagine they wouldn’t consider a 960 hour pilot, but if you’re at 201.3 hours, I don’t think you would be very competit...

Re: 2 CREW restricted CAT 1 Medical
What sorts of issues can cause someone to have a 2 crew restricted medical? There are a variety of medical issues that fit into their risk matrix in such a way that they are a low enough risk to not disqualify completely from a licence, but the additional risk above a “normal, healthy” individual w...

How does one compromise a RAIC? Seems weird a 3rd party company (Air Canada) would be able to compromise the RAIC system. It’s been a big pain in the ass, need to show a pilots license in some spots can’t use verified traveller in others https://financialpost.com/technology/air-canada-admits-hack-o...

Re: Multiple High Speed RTO's Are a Bad Idea
My trick was to pour some leftover coffee under the props after sweeping, to keep the dust down. We always seemed to have some unwanted coffee or other liquids, and I’m sure it saved some wear on props, engines, and paint.
