Re: Will Westjet survive?

If/when WJ comes out the other side of this, it will be a sad shell of it’s former self :( The same can be said for any airline in the world at the moment. WestJet is actually above the average airline in it's cash reserves as a portion of it's operating costs (as is Air Canada), based on it's last...

Re: Will Westjet survive?

You’re missing the point Brooks. As all of those companies are held privately through ONEX, people don’t know how big those companies are, what the sales are like, profit margins, assets, etc etc. They are buried beneath layers of funds and equity stakes. Plenty of information in their 171 page ann...

Re: Will Westjet survive?

Brooks, Thirdly, WJ is a piece of ONEX’s portfolio. ONEX has other companies that are under the COVID squeeze. How’s the admissions at the movies, or the production companies? Spirit manufacturing has been hurting since the MAX fiasco. The aircraft leasing company is facing hard times for sure, as l...

Re: WS/WO Layoff Mitigation Agreement

Just to be clear, from a Federal labour law perspective all temporary layoffs / LOAs have to be made permanent with a severance / termination payout after 6 months, if there isn't a CBA that states otherwise. WS is asking to extend this for a longer period to allow recall beyond 6 months for the emp...

CFM Symphony, Check the Financial Post May 6, 2020. Westjet will make it through Covid, but may not recover to previous size, warns CEO. Is the article title. Sims said that during early March, WJ was burning 25000000$ a day. His statement not mine. Cheers If you’ve ever done press interviews (as I...

Re: 787’s to Dublin?

I see 2 Westjet 787’s in flight from Calgary to Dublin. I assume they’re not scheduled flights. Are they going for storage? They are operating two cargo charter flights from DUB to ATL via YYZ on Sunday: https://canadianaviationnews.wordpress.com/2020/04/24/westjet-update-24-april-donates-million-o...

Re: WestJet Group Hiring Freeze

As of 23:59 on Sunday, all scheduled flights outside of Canada will be cancelled and the domestic flights will be cut to about 50% of normal. So basically 25% of the scheduled flights will remain by 23 Mar. https://blog.westjet.com/statement-on-o ... m-ed-sims/

Re: WestJet Group Hiring Freeze

Delta has currently grounded 300 of their aircraft, SAS is laying off 90% of their staff, American is suspending 75% of it's international flights and other airlines are looking at "drastic action". I would expect 50% of staff in temporary layoffs and force majeure declared in supplier contracts to ...

Re: Info on WS2766 Dec 1 yyz-puj

Good day everyone. My parents are travelling on ws2766-PUL on Dec 1. They are novice travelers. With the weather tomorrow they are naturally concerned about the flight. Is there a way to track the inbound flight? Or does anyone know where the plane comes in from, or does it start in yyz. The west j...

Encore reduced the flying schedule this month due to staffing issues. Not sure if that was the case in October as well. So obviously, considering the flying schedule has been reduced, you're not going to see a hike in cancellation percentages. ...in the last week there have been thirteen Encore fli...

Using FlightStats monthly data (https://www.flightstats.com/v2/monthly-performance-reports/airlines), the flight cancellation percentage of scheduled flights over the past 6 months for Encore compared with Jazz and Porter (100 - Completion Factor) is: Encore (May - Oct 2019) - 1.51, 0.84, 1.37, 3.11...

Re: Did Encore MEC insist on no back flow?

The rumour was that the Dreamliner was supposed to fit in there with 1 or 2 737’s at the same time and that they screwed up so it can only fit 1 Dreamliner alone. We’ll never know but it sure sounds like another “flawless execution” from the head shed. Not sure why these stupid rumours start. The r...

Re: ONEX plans

I heard that ONEX was going to pay $36/share before the MAX deal. So Boeing owes us shareholders $5/share!!!! One of the directors at WJ believes that ONEX didn't want to buy us to keep us the second largest airline in Canada, but wants to make it number one?? They defiantly have the funds to do it...

Re: ONEX plans

It's basically how much you thrust ONEX on their plan and ability to make Westjet a real competitor to AC... Personally I would wait to have more info on ONEX plan and the MAX, and whether they would shift or not to the A320 Neo and use the more they invested into a 787 order. Don't forget the newl...

Re: ONEX plans

What are the chances that the deal will not go through??? That peckerwood with nice hair in Ottawa might not allow it so he can screw the west even more? Garneau was the first to approve the deal on 24 June, so the Feds don’t seem to have an issue. A $200 million backout payment is due from Onex if...

Re: WestJet to be sold in friendly deal to Onex Corp. for $5 billion

WestJet currently has a Moody’s overall corporate credit rating of Ba1, compared with the lower rating of Ba2 that Air Canada has. If it is lowered it will most likely be to Ba2, giving it the same ability as Air Canada to access credit, outside of any credit provided from within the Onex portfolio.
