Re: Harbour Air

They only hire internally for the Twotter FO jobs. How many years are you willing to work the dock? Having said that, based on all the ads they post for Beaver and Otter floggers their hurting for pilots - isn't bringing the minimums down much - and probably aren't moving the pay scales either.

Usually a good idea to give as much information as possible, when posting CADORS (but then again, pelly is looking to start a thoughtful discussion...). CADORS number: 2017P2220 Occurrence Date: 2017-11-17 Occurrence Time: 0314 Z After dark in November, makes it a bit more stressful - having said th...

The Shepherd

It's that time of year again, time for us to continue the tradition from 1979 onwards of hearing Al Maitland read Frederick Forsyth's story of the lost RAF pilot. Enjoy, and have a Merry Christmas. https://www.cbc.ca/radio/asithappens/as-it-happens-the-shepherd-edition-2017-1.4455219/fireside-al-mai...

Re: Are we entering another recession?

See, I've never really understood that. What does it matter that the value of your house goes up or down 50%? You are living in there. Your mortgage payments are not affected by the changing value of your house. So how does it affect your lifestyle? It may feel sucky and sour to pay off a 500k mort...

Re: Air Canada vs American Airlines A320

I've become less and less satisfied with this Trudeau as time goes by, but his statement on the Chinese detention of (at the time) two Canadians was inline with what most would call a diplomatic tone. Now, he could have instead launched a full broadside at Xi Jinping calling him "little rocket man" ...

Re: Are we entering another recession?

Falling house prices might not necessarily be a bad thing in over heated markets like the GTA and Vancouver. Not for the folks who've bought in and are mortgaged to the teeth, they're f'd. For the people who've had a home for years and are either nearly paid off or mortgage free, a decline in value...

While that sounds like progress, I hate to say it but BC Assessment will just turn around a crank your assessments up again in the next year or so. This is a completely unaccountable agency, that cannot - I repeat, cannot justify in any way the methods they use to assess property or building values.

Alberta's current financial woes in relation to the oil sands have been decades in the making. How many occupations can you list where the entry requirements are basically knowing how to read and write and getting enough money to pay for the license except flying as a career?
Arguably that would be each and every career/job around.

Re: 26 Oct 2017 - 2 dead after plane crash near Springbank Airport, west of Calgary

This is exactly what I am talking about when I say "turbocharger issues". Isn't this then a more widespread issue with all piston aero engines, naturally aspirated, turbo'd, supercharged, etc.? Consider this scenario: You taxi your mighty Cessna 152 out to the runway, at which point you come to a s...

Re: 26 Oct 2017 - 2 dead after plane crash near Springbank Airport, west of Calgary

In any case and without judging this accident, I firmly believe that simulated engine failures during takeoff should never be done. The rewards do not justify the risks and the engine failure after overshoot exercise done at a safe ( ie 4000 AGL or higher) teaches all the skills needed to prepare a...

Re: 26 Oct 2017 - 2 dead after plane crash near Springbank Airport, west of Calgary

The schools SOP was to use a reduced takeoff power setting of 35 inches. If you think that is a power setting that doesn't use any turbocharging, you're wrong. But, it is less than the POH takeoff power setting of 40 inches. Why was there upwards of 1/3 less performance during this flight? I certain...

Re: 26 Oct 2017 - 2 dead after plane crash near Springbank Airport, west of Calgary

I'm talking about exactly what I correctly said......due to the turboocharger issue(ie turbochargers installated), they used reduced power for takeoff. Not at all, because it isn't an issue. It's FTUs looking to avoid students over boosting turbo'd engines, by using reduced power takeoffs. If there...

Re: 26 Oct 2017 - 2 dead after plane crash near Springbank Airport, west of Calgary

I guess the Seneca has turbocharger issues that can lead to pilots doing partial power climbs to prevent an overboost as happened here(never flown the type) but the density altitude is fairly high in YYC so this is just another reason to avoid low level engine failure scenarios. What are you talkin...

You'll get a medical sticker for your document booklet, if something changes in regard to your medical - say a requirement for glasses, etc...

Or, if you get a new ADB but TC hasn't put in your most recent medical - you can request a sticker to show the latest medical.
