Re: Should I withdraw from Seneca's Aviation degree program?
As for interest in trades... I never thought about and didn't have any interest in them. I don't mind learning a skill or two, but I'd rather go into post-secondary and get a degree because it's a more enjoyable journey. I'm also interested in Computer Science's, programming in high school was quit...

Re: OK -- why
The only people who think YYZ is the "centre of the universe" are those who don't live there. Indeed, and for good reason: the vast bulk of the Canadian media sphere is centred around the GTA. If you live here you probably don't notice the bias, but if you live anywhere else in the country the "nat...

I don't know why Bombardier doesn't host anything at downsview. Might help in selling some planes. Something like a mini MAKS, Paris and Dubai Airshows. It would be a lot nicer to be able to walk up to the aircraft From a pure flying perspective..YZD is too close to Pearson to have any aerial displ...

Some people say the north end of Hanlan's Point Beach is good, but birds on the tarmac and birds with feathers might not be the only birds you see.

You can make 80k+ working as a conductor for CN. They pay you during training, too, last I heard. The hours are somewhat random, however.

Re: I hate ultralights
This is the kind of thing though that I wish TC would sort out. They're behind the times since ultralights aren't just kites with a Briggs and Stratton anymore, there's some that perform like airplanes. They need to sort that out, its not like the old kites that are somewhat performance limited and...

Hey, careful now. NavCan management will heed your advice and do away with all FSS and controllers. Lol, would be cool to watch and listen. DCA went uncontrolled for a bit on...

I have an uncle with a prosthetic lower arm (the original lost to a grenade). One of his favourite tricks would be to leave his fake hand gripped when shaking hands and pull the rest of his arm out.

Re: Flight simulator software for Cessna 172 question
50 hrs dual was for the retractable gear Mooney. Which I can kind of understand. Pilots often forget to lower the gear. Even ones with ATPL's. Ahh, that makes more sense. Was that 50 hours with no retractable experience? Still, seems a bit ridiculous to me. re: plastic tailwheel ... I was bowing do...

Re: Flight simulator software for Cessna 172 question
The thing I hate are things that are technically "serviceable" but compared to certified aircraft, are terribly bad ideas. Usually switches, valves and other things that are in bad places, poorly accessible and other such things. See John Denver. The fad these days of course is to squeeze a few yar...

Re: Flight simulator software for Cessna 172 question
But, wait. You probably want insurance, right? In Canada, the insurance companies are the gatekeepers in this respect. I know a guy, bought a Mooney, had to get FIFTY hours of dual on it, to get insurance, which is far beyond anything the FAA requires. That's nuts! Is because the wings are low? Are...

Re: Flight simulator software for Cessna 172 question
The thing to remember is that the classes of instructor aren't indicative of the skill level of airplanes. Class 2 is basically saying one has the understanding to be a CFI, Class 1 is saying that one can teach other instructors. Neither rating confers any other skill, just like it doesn't mean you...

Re: Flight simulator software for Cessna 172 question
Anyways, this lack of fundamental piloting skills is a huge embarrassment to us in Canada. I get crapped on a lot because I point it out - which hurts people's feelings - and I try to do something about it. Feelings are irrelevant when people could get hurt or die. I would want any future instructo...

A more pleasing rush is cruising down winding mountainous highways on my road bike at over 70 km/h, where a tiny rock can make a wheel bounce six inches out on a corner. Personally, the best "rushes" I get flying, occur when I gently and precisely place the aircraft exactly where I intend, and it w...

Re: unplanned road trip
Take Highway 1 to Cache Creek, then Highway 97 to Dawson Creek. Highway 1 is a little winding and hilly in parts, but is a good road. No need to worry about ice in August. Plus the view are fantastic. Highway 97 is basically wide, flat, and straight (for BC) the whole way to Yukon, except the reason...
