Re: Medical validity for over age 40 flight instructors
To me it seems logical that flight instruction is not single pilot and the 12 Month medical validity should apply. It would be nice if TC were to put that in writing somewhere. I did get further information on this issue from TC today, the inspector I spoke to told me that they have been given dire...

Re: Medical validity for over age 40 flight instructors
I am now hearing that TC wants over 40 instructors to do 6 months medicals. Has anybody seen any written direction on this ? Nothing in writing that I've seen yet, but I was speaking to a TC inspector about this last week. He did not comment on if the regulation change included instructors but he d...

Re: Circuit Courtesy
The good news is that more and more FSS are getting a radar feed. This obviates the need to ask pilots where they are and has significantly reduced frequency congestion at busy airports served by an FSS. DAR: If you experienced a situation where safety was compromised by the actions of the FSS than...

but it is incorrect with respect to the airway airspace. It is as photofly indicated above, above 12,500 (or MEA) to FL180 it will be Class B airspace, below that to 2200 AGL Class E and typically under that Class G

Re: Forced Approach - Best Glide Speed
This is a good point, it's been my experience that a candidate will often fly the best glide all the way down from 3000' (AGL) in spite of of any scenario they have been presented with. A result of some single dimensional training I presume. The training should include more situations that include f...

Re: Conflicts Please Advise
I heard a new one a couple of days ago. Flying Wetaskiwin - Camrose I heard someone on 126.7 end his position report with "... Conflicts (registration) (location)". He didn't use the whole phrase, just the word. It sounded like he was just too damn lazy to say the whole thing. Maybe he'll start a w...

Re: PPL Flight Test
That is correct Vx,Vy,Va are the only items on a PPL flight test that need to be recited from memory. (...and maybe your name ) With that said, things will go a lot smoother and if you actually understand that systems, and procedures of the aircraft that you are flying for your test. Notes, stickies...

Opps.... That sucks
If you haven't advised Transport yet let them know and they will print you a temporary licence that you can use while you are waiting for a new, new licence.

Re: Use of aircraft lighting
coming from almost every instructor I've had, including the CFI, is to not use the landing light during the daytime when in the circuit or entering the airport area for landing. "nobody can see it". I think this was common practice in a vain attempt to save the life of the incandescent lamps of old...

Re: Logbook question
With logbook pro can you have it on a PC and then access it on an iPad or iPhone? It only works with your apple products iPad, iPhone, or Macs. You can export into and out of it but that would not work well as a daily practice. It will generate reports for printing or logbook pages if you prefer or...

Re: Logging Instrument Hood Time
So you are the CFI, and you are an examiner for the same school? I'm not familiar with the way the civilian FTUs operate, so feel free to explain like I was 5, but how can that work? Sure no problem, its not really all that uncommon many FTU's will have one or more P.E.'s on staff, depending on the...

Re: Logging Instrument Hood Time
You're a CFI. What do you think about the endless hours of training wasted on ab initio students, teaching them simulated soft/short field landings? 99% of newly minted PPL's have never flown on grass or gravel. If they wish to venture from a certified, paved runway, AFTER their PPL they will requi...

Re: Logging Instrument Hood Time
Sure but if the pilot was taking advantage of sub rule C and taking training from somebody meeting 421.21(9) other than an instructor then he/she would need the 15 hours plus the 5 hours as per sub rule A, and of course this can be part of PPL or even CPL.. its still going to work out to 20 hours of...

Re: Logging Instrument Hood Time
The minimum requirement for instruction for the IFR rating is the requirement that 15 hours must be done by an instructor or someone meeting the requirements of CAR 425.21(9). After that you can do as everything else solo if you want. I think it works out be 20 hours..... 5 hours from a flight inst...

Re: Flight Training in Canada
You also won't be able to get a job as an instructor unless you have the right to work in Canada. That really isn't to hard to get for a graduate of a program. They usually will be given a Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWPP) for a year or longer in some cases. The real challenge is getting job in the...

Re: IFR Renewal
what exercises are tested on the MIFR renewal? I understand its not like the initial. ..having to renew my for the first time soon. There really is no significant difference between an initial and a renewal flight test, assuming that you did your initial test in the last few years or so. The main d...
