Re: FAAAA Exam

Glad it all worked out!
I believe if you wrote the FAAAA it combines the two, but I could be completely wrong.
The TC material on the conversation is about as clear as mud, and it is almost impossible to find anyone that knows anything about it.
Hope it all goes well,
Cheers

Re: FAAAA Exam

Spend the money for the Pilot Training FAAAA Course, I used it a few years back for the FAACA and FAAIA exams and it was excellent.

Re: Thinking about becoming a pilot. Where do I start?

It is 100% possible to get a student loan going to a privately owned Flight School.. I am living proof, and the school wasn't even within Canada. PM me if you want more info.

Barnstormer Brewery

Came across this little brewery at a craft beer festival last night in the GTA, and decided to check them out at the LCBO today. I was told by the guy serving that the owner is a retired pilot that opened the brewery a few years ago!

ISO of FlightTraining.ca's IATRA Course Review

Hey everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has used the IATRA course on PilotTraining.ca and could provide some insight to how it was, and if it helped. Im trying to make a decision to purchase the online course or just the aerocourse book.

Cheers, to a nice long weekend!

Airport/Aviation Memorabilia

Hey!

Im just curious if anyone on here collects aviation memorabilia, such as old airport lights, signs, etc.. Im trying to do up my rec room with some vintage pieces, and looking for ideas. Ideally id like to get an old directional sign, or edge light and restore it myself. Any ideas?

Cheers

I did a stint at Terra Quest in Sioux Lookkout this past summer. Phenomenal place to work for, very nice and accommodating. Would absolutely work for them again in a heart beat.

This is a large struggle in the US, lots of FTUs do this. I know of a buddy that did it at Flight Safety in Vero Beach!

Cheers, Thanks. Made it a little more realistic, cost wise.

Is anyone planning on going to St. Andrews that day, that would be interested in splitting expenses? Im trying to avoid renting a car. Please let me know via PM.

Re: Aviation Career/Job fair day - St. Andrews, Winnipeg

This is a great idea! I wish more flight schools were as interested in helping their students actually find jobs. With the way things are going in the industry I wouldn't be surprised to see a few job offers go out during this event. Im trying to get a half decent priced flight out there from YYZ, ...

Re: Embry Riddle or other US university for aviation degree

Hey! I'm doing my BS in Aeronautics with them right now. It's been fantastic, other then being pretty expensive. I know of a few guys that tried UVU online (Utah Valley), and they said it wasn't even comparable. If you hold FAA Certification you qualify for credit towards your degrees, I believe the...

PPL - To start this all off, my examiner was a BIG guy. Large enough that I had trouble trimming a 172 from the left seat, same problem with mixture and throttle. Completed all the tasks and passed. IR - Absolutle breeze, my examiner said maybe at most 5 words to me. Which was nice, just doing my th...

I didn't have a problem getting a line of credit through BMO with a co-signer,I was 18 at the time. This was also for a school in the states.

Good Luck

I did the Harvs FAA conversion courses on their website.
I found them excellent, they were put together nicely so that anyone could navigate them. Lots and lots of information!
I would definitely recommend them. If you have any other question feel free to PM me!

I'm a current 200 Hr wonder, working construction making a decent $20 an hour 45 hours a week Monday To Friday in Southern Ontatio. Sure it sucks, but it does pay the bills.

Not leaving until I find something flying.

Re: Choosing a GTA flight school for PPL?

I would say go for Toronto Airways then, I was driving over a half an hour to train at CYKZ. Worth it I think. Take a drive over, like I said. They're more than willing to help you out and get you well on your way. They've got a pilot shop there as well, good for last minute charts and publications....

Re: Choosing a GTA flight school for PPL?

Hey man! I did about 25 hours at Toronto Airways (CYKZ) during high school before moving away to finish my training. I still rent from Toronto Airways, I would recommend them 100%. They run a excellent operation, at decent rates. I think its about $160 an hour, even for their G1000 Equipped 172, I b...

Re: Laser Strike Suspect Arrested

It occurs to me that green lasers, being so bright, could be an effective piece of signalling equipment in a SAR situation. I wonder if there's a way to mitigate the temporary effects on a pilot's vision while keeping the effectiveness of the laser. I carry a green laser in my emergency pack for ju...
