Re: Covid-19 impact of float operations

If this continues I can see a few operators locking up. Insurance has sky rocketed, and rates can only increase so much before it’s not economical to charter unless you are on government business.

Re: What happens to a Pilot in Case of an accident

I’ve hired pilot with one accidents before. You know they aren’t going to make the same mistake again. Also will become a safer pilot. Everyone makes a mistake. These pilots are now with WestJet, Air Canada, Transport Canada, etc.

Re: Good Hands n’ Feet vs. Operational Experience

The last two commercial guys I trained had the worst hand/feet coordination that I’ve ever seen. Took them 40 hrs plus to get them ready for a vfr ppc. Worst part was they thought they they were awesome pilots. They couldn’t understand why I was not recommending them for the ride.

Re: Abbotsford Commuter Aircraft Mishap, Feb 23, 2018

De icing is a joke. At the airport I work at calm air does the ground school, but no actual training on the use of the equipment. They have people off the street on the drive machine that don't have a clue about the effects of icing on aircraft. Fast air comes and goes with all types of ice on the w...

Re: Are We Safe?

I was using Navajo and king airs only in name as well. It's all smaller aircraft. Airport operators in Manitoba have some pretty scary stories with the DC-3 in the last six months as well.

Re: Are We Safe?

I totally agree with you. I would not put my family in anyone that operates Navajo's or king airs. Same goes for most floatplanes. I've seen more runway incursions, sloppy radio work, planes touching down long on short snow covered runways, etc. I think it's only a matter of time. People are being p...

Re: Westwind

Question should be does westwind have an adequate de ice unit along with the required lift to get to the height of the tail to de ice and inspect. It's pretty high up there and a regular ladder won't work.

De icing

Just curious as to what the smaller airlines are using in northern Saskatchewan, Manitoba and else where to de ice. I see calm air de ice at their remote airports stations whenever there is a trace of ice. Fast air comes and go's with all sorts of ice on the wings/ tail. Perimeter is the same, lots ...
